Marc Jacobs is totally feeling the summer fur trend

Who knew that “summer fur” would ever be a Thing? Is fashion running out of trends and the only thing that’s left to do is wear things that are wildly inappropriate for the weather? Possibly. And, well I’m sort of ok with that. As Paris Vogue editrix Carine Roitfeld recently said on Twitter, fashion isn’t to make you look attractive, it’s to make you look different.

And, rest assured, wearing something like the Marc Jacobs Gilda Fur & Sequins Flap Bag will definitely accomplish the goal of making a woman look different than most people in society. Then again, if it’s made by one of the biggest designers on the planet and sold by a huge, multinational retailer, is it really that different? Should we all be moving on to the next “different” thing already? Lofty questions, these, but most importantly – is it a bag worth buying?

Botkier donates 50% of Joy Satchel proceeds to charity

Who doesn’t love the opportunity to buy a new handbag and simultaneously contribute much-needed money to a good cause, all for the price of one? Particularly when the handbag is one you’d want to buy anyway? Botkier is a brand that has successfully linked fashion and charity in the past, and they’re doing it again with their Botkier Joy Satchel.

Designed in collaboration with the bag’s namesake, actress Joy Bryant, 50% of the proceeds from every bag’s sale will go to Oxfam, an international charity organization that aids the poor, particularly in developing nations. With such a noble cause tied to such a nice bag, there may be literally no downside.

Want It Wednesday: YSL Jungle Theme

Do you have a bucket list? I never technically sat down to write what I want to do before I die, but I have an ever-growing list of things I would like to do in my life-time (ok, does that make it a bucket list?!). On the list is visit a jungle and go on the zip line through the jungle. If any of you have done it, please do tell me about it in the comments!

Having jungle themed items in no means satiates my wanting to visit the jungle, but I will take leopard print fashion and sexy green shoes any time. My Want It Wednesday this week focuses on Yves Saint Laurent; more specifically a Roady Hobo, Tribute Sandals, and Zig-Zag necklace.

Carine Roitfeld (Accidentally) Followed PurseBlog On Twitter

For about three minutes in my life, I was under the impression that Carine Roitfeld, Editor-in-Chief of French Vogue, loved PurseBlog. That ended up being short-lived, for after Carine Roitfeld followed us on Twitter, she quickly unfollowed. Clearly it was a follow mishap. The mouse-clicked-on-the-wrong-button kind of follow.

You see, having a designer, editor, or important person follow you on Twitter means they take a liking to what you and your tweets have to offer (that is unless they follow anyone that follows them, which I never understand). For one short second I thought, “WOW, Carine Roitfeld loves us!” There was a lot of excitement. Carine is only following a select handful of people, and somehow, by accidental mouse clicking, we became one of them. I’ll take an accidental follow from one of the most influential women in the fashion industry any day.

Lindsay Lohan: Handbag Designer Extraordinaire (?)

You know, I am not really sure what to say here… and that rarely happens. So, let me see what I can conjure up given the fact that my mind is suffering from various states of confusion.

As I was catching up on some news (as well as daily celeb gossip), I came across a tidbit of information that I *HAD* to share with you all. Lindsay Lohan is planning on breaking into the handbag world. And no, I am not talking about her discussing the various expensive handbags she owns. Instead, I am talking about Lindsay designing handbags of her own.

If you are anything like me, you need to reflect on this a little bit.

Kate Spade Jane Street Neda Calfskin Wallet

When it comes to happy, summery bags, I immediately think of Kate Spade. Growing up in the South in a city where Lilly Pulitzer abounds, the Kate Spade brights would always come out when the weather warmed up. Without fail, something like this Kate Spade Jane Street Neda Calfskin Wallet would be paired with a bright little cardi and a Pulitzer dress.

It’s not my style at all. You see, I’d pair the wallet with something much different than this particular Southern preppy style, like with something quirky and bohemian for a nice contrast. However, that just shows how versatile this little wallet it.

Marc by Marc Jacobs hops on the hippie trend with Damisi Patchwork Leola Satchel

Everything is coming up boho these days. The recent Chanel Cruise 2011 show has me convinced – the hippie look is officially a Thing, at every level of fashion. Luckily, since the trend has such down-market origins, it’s easy to find clothes and accessories at every price point to achieve the look. For example, if you want an of-the-moment bag but don’t want to empty your entire piggy bank to buy one from the Chanels of the world, the Marc by Marc Jacobs Damisi Patchwork Leola Satchel is a really nice mid-range option.

I’m a little concerned about the logo plate sitting smack-dab amid all of the soft-looking camel leather, but I’m willing to let it slide. It aslo has a bit of a late-70s feel in an Urban Cowboy way that can be so, so chic if done correctly, and this bag is certainly a piece around which a retro-cool outfit could be easily built.

Chloé goes glossy with the Darla Shoulder Bag

I never really realized it until now, but I’ve always associated Chloé with bags made of thick, matte leather. That’s more or less been the brand’s modus operandi since the the Chloe Paddington came on the scene back in ’04. Lately, though, a bit of aesthetic change is afoot, and that’s clear with the Chloé Darla Shoulder Bag.

The departure isn’t enormous, for sure, but going glossy is something of a noticeable change in direction. Plus, the last time I picked up a Chloé bag in a department store, I didn’t topple over under its weight, and that was also something of a first. So, change: good or bad? Let’s discuss.

Olivia Harris Zip Pocket Leather Clutch

So, there is a good chance you know that we do our best *not* to replicate handbag coverage here. There are so many handbags out there that we become busy trying to cover a wide variety of our favorites (and sometimes not so favorites), meaning we don’t really find a need to revisit a given design. However, every now and again there is a bag that has already been reviewed by myself or another member of the PurseBlog team that deserves a revisit.

All of this being said, the Olivia Harris Zip Pocket Leather Clutch is a handbag completely deserving of the revisit. Amanda covered this bag back this past fall and while I liked it, I completely appreciate this version oh so much more.

In need of $14,500 for the Proenza Schouler Crocodile PS1

In the grand scheme of prices, $14,500 for an entire crocodile bag is not that bad. I am not too daft to recognize that it is an exorbitant price tag, but when you look at expensive designer bags all day long your sense of what is truly expensive versus what is not changes. And here I am telling you that $14,500 is not incredibly expensive. Let me make sure to state that it is expensive, just not relatively speaking. And I love the Proenza Schouler PS1, which makes me more apt to justify the price tag.

We have already covered the crocodile PS1 and I loved it then. But now I have three more reasons to love the Proenza Schouler Crocodile PS1 and it has to do with color. Vibrant coral, ocean blue, and bottle green to be exact.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Happy Dot Mabel Tote

It’s here! A few months ago, we covered the impending arrival of this Marc by Marc Jacobs Happy Dot Mabel Tote to Shopbop. Lo and behold, it’s here, and right in time for summer.

As expected, the price is rather reasonable, at $228. It’s a rather large bag, though. Would you carry it? It’s very on-trend with it’s mixed prints, but I find the choice of prints to be rather matronly””giant dots and gingham. Surprisingly, the braided handles pull it all together and bring it out of the boondocks.
