When it comes to bags, I’m really not one to discriminate. My collection is full of bags from a variety of designers, a ton of different shapes, sizes and colors. My shopping patterns are not very methodical. If I see something and I like it and feel that it will work with other pieces in my wardrobe that I already own, I’ll add it to my list, and eventually, it will be mine.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a mountain of Kardashian-level wealth, so I can’t buy whatever I want whenever I want it. Like many of us, I have a running wishlist of bags that I want to add to my collection. Some are a far-off dream that won’t happen in the near future (ie: the perfect vintage Kelly), and others, like the perfect vintage Fendi Baguette, will stay on there until the right one at the right price comes along.
Certain bags on my list I lusted after for years before I finally added them to my collection, like my Bottega Veneta Mini Jodie, which I loved at first sight, and, more recently, my Prada Cleo. Still, there are some bags that I love, have added to my list, and still want enough to return to, but I can never seem to actually pull the trigger on them.
A Loewe Classic
Maybe another bag comes along and bumps it further down on my list, or maybe there’s some part of me that just can’t commit to it. Either way, there’s one bag that’s been on my radar for years that I’ve tried on many times but just can’t seem to pull the trigger on. For me, it’s the iconic Loewe Flamenco Bag.
I’m talking about the original, not the new Flamenco Purse, which first entered the brand’s line-up in the 1970s and was revived and revamped in 2010 by then-creative director Stuart Vevers. Current CD Jonathan Anderson further updated the silhouette when he was appointed in 2014. The Flamenco is a timeless classic and I’ve reccommended it to many bag lovers looking to purchase their first bag from Loewe. Still, for reasons unknown, I’ve yet to add the Flamenco to my own collection.
Which bag gives you commitment issues?
Hi Kaitlin, maybe all you need is a Flamenco with the perfect color to pop up one day. It happened to me as well, I’ve always thought certain muted colors made it look like a random sack with drawstring. All it takes was a rich, jewel tone iteration of the bag for me to finally pull the trigger
I love the Chanel Flaps-Small, medium or large. But I will not pull the trigger. I could probably “afford” one, but over 10K makes me cringe.
Yeah fresh-from-store they are SO cringe now!
Lady Dior, I think I want one but end up buying something else.
Yes…. So much yes to this. I did buy one, I loved the idea of it but the reality of it was too delicate too single purpose not my everyday non glamorous life! I think I wanted the life that goes with the lady di bag. Back she went for the all leather Dior cannage book tote! Viola, not the bag I wanted but the one I needed 🤓
The one I can’t commit to is the Fendi Baguette too. I have been trying to add one to my collection for a while but always back off at the last minute. Is it the size- even the Medium size cannot hold much, the weird way it sits on the body with the ultra-short strap? If I spend $4K on a bag, I shouldn’t have such complaints.
Loewe puzzle bag and any bottega veneta bag. Im still on the fence with the weave style (same with the lv giant monogram). Also bags in a neutral color. Neutral color is badly needed in my already colorful collection but i dont want to buy something that doesnt excite me.
Puzzle bag Loewe ….
Actually 2 bags: Loewe Flamenco in light blue, which is no longer available. I’ll keep it on my list, maybe I’ll find it pre-loved at some point. The second one is the Fendi Peeakaboo. I like the new soft version, but the size seems to large for me and it is expensive, so not sure about it.
I just bought the Flamenco! It’s been on my wishlist for a couple of years.
The Celine teen Triomphe is the one I can’t seem to pull the trigger on… I get *heart eyes* every time I see it, but I also find the logo a bit too large and it’s sooo expensive!
Mine is the Gucci bamboo top handle bag. I love everything about it, but why can’t I pull the trigger? Maybe because I put a self imposed restriction not to buy another bag, but then I always end up breaking my rule. I’m hopeless!
