The original Fendi Baguette made its debut on the runway for the brand’s Fall/Winter 1997 collection, and few could have predicted that almost 30 years later, it would remain as relevant in the cultural zeitgeist as when it was first launched.
Designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi, the Baguette returned to the limelight at the beginning of the archival revival boom. Re-launched in 2019, it has firmly cemented its place in modern handbag history. While the Baguette is a cornerstone design and an important brand signifier of the House of Fendi, it is also one of the most widely recognized designer bags.
The Enduring Legacy of the Fendi Baguette
Characterized by its sleek silhouette, which fits perfectly tucked under the arm, it is, of course, named after the way that French girls are often snapped walking around the streets of Paris with their baguettes. The original silhouette was defined by its small shoulder strap, though modern iterations come with dual strap options.

Its ubiquity, relevance, and recognizability can be attributed, in part, to its status in pop culture. The Carrie-Bradshaw-approved bag continues to serve as a blank canvas for reinvention and expression, evolving seasonally and capturing the hearts of handbag lovers everywhere.
Silvia Venturini Fendi’s Lasting Influence
Though Silvia Venturini Fendi’s creative reign may have come to a close, with Maria Grazia Chiuri at the helm, the Baguette’s power has been proven, and it is here to stay. Venturini Fendi’s Spring 2026 collection, which was her last for Fendi, was one of the boldest, brightest, and most fun in recent years. It has dropped on Fendi.com, and there is a Fendi Baguette for the maximalist that lives in all of us.
Fendi’s newest Baguettes truly feel like a tribute to the prolific designer, dripping in beads, bright colors, bold embellishments, and more; they are reminiscent of Fendi’s earliest Baguettes, the ones that now go for a premium on the resale market.

Prices are becoming more and more ridiculous.
If you saw Devil Wears Prada 2, you know that accessories is where the profits are in luxury brands.
My favourite bag of all time.
Absolute perfection , I love these.
I remember buying several baguettes from the Fendi outlet in Orlando 15 yrs ago below $600/each and they were much prettier than these. In total, I purchased 10-15 from the outlet over a period of 5 years, some of which I still have and some of which I sold for profit. Those were the good ole days!
That second daisy baguette 😍🌼
That denim piece looks good
I’m a man who will die having last used my vintage 70s Hunting World “camera bag” on vacation. Gotta love maximalism becoming palatable-exquisite only when reduced to a certain small size!
