What Bags Are We Wearing to Run Errands These Days?

Are our nice bags not the move?

It was a scorching hot July afternoon last summer, smack in the middle of the week, when the inevitable happened. I ran into someone when I hadn’t planned on seeing anyone. That’s always the way the story goes.

“I’m just gonna run out real quickly to do x, y, z,” when suddenly you’ve gone viral on Instagram with a mop of dirty hair atop your head, no makeup, an athleisure outfit and your favorite Saint Laurent bag tucked under your shoulder.

Ok, maybe that was just me but I digress. The point here is: what bags are we carrying when we’re out running a quick errand? Seriously, I want to know!

A Viral Moment

“The YSL bag while walking kills me,” a user poster beneath the TikTok shared by popular Instagram account @thedogist, capturing the aforementioned moment. Burried between comments obsessing over my Frenchie Dudley, the comment of course stood out to me because it mentioned my bag.

I wondered if it looked silly or out of place paired with Nike Bike shorts and New Balance sneakers. Truthfully, I wasn’t planning on anyone seeing that outfit that day. I was dressed in preperation to go for a run after the workday was over.

I simply ran out of the house in the middle of a busy day to get a coffee and walk the dog. The bag was hanging by my door; I grabbed it and off I went. Truthfully, I forgot about the comment until last week when I had a moment of deja vu.

The bag in question…

I was donning a similar outfit, heading out to walk the dog on a scorching hot summer day. I immediately grabbed for my Prada Cleo, which was hanging by the door, packed and ready to go. I looked down at my sneakers and Adidas Stella McCartney running shorts and for a millisecond wished that I had never sold my Prada Nylon Belt Bag.

Truthfully the reason I sold it is because I felt it didn’t make sense to own a Prada bag that I only used when running errands or walking the dog (a cost per wear I couldn’t justify). That’s when I wondered once again (thanks to my flashback); is it silly to use our nice bags when running errands and/or wearing athleisure?

Do you carry your luxury bags no matter the occasion or do you use something else? Let’s discuss!

I don’t think it’s weird to walk your dog with a nice bag – I think the weird part is an over the shoulder bag while walking. After using crossbodys I don’t know how I’ll go back to over the shoulder, they’re just not as comfortable. I go bag-less walking my dog and I run all my errands with nice bags (because I don’t have not-expensive bags)

Prada Arque. It is light as a feather so I never get tired of carrying it around. And looks almost new after 9 months of continuous wear.

I love my Arque! It often comes on the school run with me lol

My favorite running errands bag is the Burberry Banner bag in size small or my Coach Willow. They’re easy to use.

My go-to (read: I leave all my stuff in it) is the Hermes Cabas H En Biais 40 in blue. It doesn’t have a top closure so I added a small zip pouch that loops securely around one of the handles where I put my wallet. As it’s mostly canvas it’s lightweight and has straps long enough to be a shoulder bag and large enough to carry a lightweight jacket. The color makes it easy to go with anything I’m wearing and in a pinch it can carry my laptop or ipad. It also serves as my travel purse.
