It’s 95 degrees in New York today, and I just sat back down at my computer after my daily afternoon walk to my coffee shop, which, I might add, I took solo because it was far too hot to bring my French Bulldog, Dudley, along. Though it doesn’t exactly feel like it, fall is, in fact, coming in the not-so-distant future. Soon, I’ll be trading cold brews for hot lattes, sweltering evening jogs for cool morning runs, Birkenstocks for my favorite Bottegas and summer bags for fall carries.
Trading Summer Carries for Fall
Truthfully, most of my bags are seasonless, and I wear them all year long, but I am excited to reach for a few of my bags that haven’t gotten enough love this summer. My summer rotation has mostly been a mix of sleek shoulder bags like my Saint Laurent Le 5 à 7 and my Prada Cleo. My Bottega Mini Jodie in Ice Cream has been getting a lot of love too.
As summer ends and fall begins, I sometimes carry more with me, as fall is my favorite season for reading and writing in the park or tucked away in a cozy corner of a coffee shop. Naturally, I also tend to reach for my more neutral bags in the fall. And I’m looking forward to breaking out my Celine Triomphe Cuir Bag and getting more use out of my Celine Small 16 bag which easily holds my journal tucked away in one of the compartments or a book (depending on the size). I finally purchased the logo strap I was eyeing in the Spring, but I haven’t used it more than a few times as I don’t reach for my darker bags as often during the warmer months.
Worn and Loved Loud Luxury
Additionally, I’ve been loving the look of a worn-in (aka well-loved) Louis Vuitton Speedy Bag. Although many of us are leaning into quiet luxury, I will always love the look of a monogram. The Speedy was my first love (and my second bag baby ever!), and though I’ve since sold my Speedy 30 in Damier Azur, my Monogram 25 will forever be a staple in my closet, no matter how much my style changes! I’m looking forward to styling it this fall as the leaves change and I break out more of my neutrals.
What bags are you excited to wear as fall cools off? Are you breaking out oldies but goodies or getting ready to add something new to the rotation?
My new Loewe Anton backpack.
Yesterday I attended a luncheon and due to rain (the first in over 3 weeks!) I carried my ancient French Company Speedy 35, perfect for a rainy day. It has held up wonderfully, all that it has needed is a new zipper which LV could not do (found an excellent cobbler next town over). That bag is timeless, sturdy, light-weight and will always be an icon.
I love pairing my Gucci x Balenciaga Neo City Bag with trench coats, faux fur coats, and leather jackets! It doesn’t get as much use during the summer
I don’t have seasonal bags mostly because I don’t carry anything neutral. Everything is colorful. However, I do tend to carry my one of two black handbags more-a very old studded Burberry bag. It’s a little edgy, and it seems more fall-ish.
My Primo Atelier GoGo bag
Hoping to add two new bags to my collection this fall: the LV Alma PM in the quilted (malletage) black leather and the LV Petite Malle in reverse monogram.
My Bottega Arco in fondant. I love that bag but can’t bring myself to wear dark brown anytime other than fall or winter.
a couple older LV bags I found in thrift stores – a Saint Cloud GM and a Cartouchiere MM.
Since it dropped more than twenty degrees where I live and I can wear jeans, I broke out my Dior Oblique mini saddle soft bag. For me it is definitely a cooler weather bag.
I rotate my Chanel classic flap lambskin, LV speedy 30, LV toiletry pouch on chain and vintage Fendi Zucca hobo
Just purchased a Gucci Ophidia (medium) tote in the black suede. Hunted all over the place to find one NWT. Living in FL, I’ll just pretend it is fall come October 1! I also love pulling out my LV Long Beach in Amarante Vernis. I bought it new and still believe it is one of my best purchases ever!
I have the that bag in the brown monogram and that is my favorite fall bag. Enjoy your bag. You will love it.
My Chanel 22.
