The fashion world is no stranger to padded, pillowy handbags. In fact, the trend towards all things inflated spans well beyond handbags. Everything from jackets and shoes to the handbags we’ve known and loved for seasons seems to be expanding. The trend shows absolutely no signs of slowing down, and industry analysts have pointed out how in a sense, inflated fashion is a mirror to the economic downturn. Art (and fashion) often imitates life, and it’s an interesting comparison to consider, given that this season, the trend towards inflated fashion seems larger than ever.
Puffy in Prada
From Loewe to Louis Vuitton, padded bags have been part of designer’s line ups for the last few seasons and for Spring 2023, Prada expands its own pillowy offerings. Adding to its popular Padded Nylon Tote from last year, a variety of leather options enter the Prada line-up this spring.
First up, Prada starts with its originals, giving the ever-popular Prada Re-Edition ($2,950) an update. Appearing in smooshy, soft padded leather the Re-Edition comes in a variety of bold hues like green, blue, and pink. Then, there’s the newest Re-Edition, the Prada Moon Bag ($2,950), which is modeled after an iconic 2000s Prada shape pulled from the archives.
The Prada Moon bag was first re-introduced last fall in nylon, and while the shape remains true throughout, the plush leather adds an innovative edge, making this bag feel quintessentially Prada—an ideal combination of modern and classic. It combines traditional House elements with an on-trend appeal, finished with the Prada logo.
The newest bag introduced to the pillowy Prada line-up is the Prada Padded Soft Nappa Bag, which is a top handle tote available in both a mini and a medium size. It provides a certain duality thanks to its simple shape but plush, dimensional leather. It’s this juxtaposition that gives this bag a unique edge. Also available in a range of both neutral and bold colors, each color is finished with a classic Prada Triangle in a tonal hue.
On trend but still classicly Prada, these bags are sure to delight. What do you think?
I saw the moon bag in person today. I like it in these pictures. Not so much in person. It looks cheap. Too bad because I was excited to see this style brought back.
The moon bag is giving….TJ Maxx. Sorry, I can’t get behind that one.
Prada isn’t good quality and so expensive for what it is. Not worth it. (To me)
Awful.
Prada does it better with their RTW
