Forty years ago, American fashion designer Marc Jacobs debuted his first collection under his namesake brand, and the rest is fashion history. Jacobs will forever be known as one of the great American designers, and he was just 21 in 1984 when his label debuted.
Known for his quirky approach to fashion, the designer has made his mark on the fashion world, focusing not only on traditional craft and quality but innovation and modernism. He quickly became a driving force within the industry, spearheading a new generation of creatives dedicated to changing how fashion related to humanitarianism.
Ever a Rebel, Marc by Marc Jacobs landed under the designer’s umbrella in 2001, and the brand has undergone many iterations of change and rebranding. These days, the brand has solidified its place among a new subset of consumers with hits like the Snapshot, The Tote Bag, and more.
Forty Years of Marc!
As the brand celebrates its 40th anniversary, Marc Jacobs has called upon friends and past collaborators to create a limited-edition capsule collection, with new pieces dropping throughout the year. Last month, the brand debuted a bold red lipstick in partnership with Pat McGrath.
This month, it introduces a sweet pairing, that of Marc Jacobs and Anna Sui, longtime fashion friends who have collaborated in the past. The duo will release two pieces—one, a limited edition Snapshot bag and the other, an embroidered varsity jacket.
The pieces blend each designer’s unique and playful aesthetics while simultaneously being an ode to the duo’s friendship. The Snapshot Bag showcases caricatures of Marc and Anna with stars embroidered overtop, all accented by purple edging.
