One of the greatest collaborations in fashion debuted on Louis Vuitton’s spring 2001 runway.
Under the design direction of then-creative director Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton released the first of many incredibly iconic LV x Stephen Sprouse collections. The collection reinvigorated the Louis Vuitton Monogram, featuring a Stephen Sprouse graffiti print over top of Louis Vuitton’s classic Monogram canvas.
It was a hit.
In later years, following the artist’s death in 2004, Jacobs would resurrect the iconic print in 2009 as a way to honor the artist who had passed away from cancer. Jacobs would depart Louis Vuitton in 2014, but his love for working with Stephen Sprouse’s Grafitti print, which he first discovered in 1984, would continue.
An Ode to the Early Aughts
Mixing downtown cool with uptown chic, Marc Jacobs revisits Sprouse’s iconic Grafitti print once again, remixing the Stephen Sprouse x Marc Jacobs THE TOTE BAG that was first released early last year. The first run dropped in green as part of the brand’s 40th anniversary celebrations. This time, the collection sees a bold, hot pink graffiti print.
The original THE TOTE BAG was first released in 2019, quickly becoming an iconic staple of both the brand—and a generation, ushering in a whole new set of fans. Rising to fame thanks to its quirky Y2K appeal, the brand sold 100,000 of it in just the first year alone, and its popularity spawned new sizes and novelty iterations that fans couldn’t get enough of.
Of course, few versions were as coveted as the Stephen Sprouse x Marc Jacobs version, and fans who weren’t lucky the first time around are now given another chance to snag one.
If that’s you, run, don’t walk to grab yours for $550 via Marc Jacobs.
I wish it was Louis Vuitton collaborating again with Stephen Sprouse.
That would be hard since he’s dead.
Didn’t he die in 2004? lol
You an me both! Roses are forever on my want list!
This looks sad and unimaginative.
Does anyone who has a leather version of The Tote Bag share how heavy it gets with and without items inside?
