Love It or Leave It
Texture might be the most underrated way to make a handbag special and interesting. Regular leather can only be dyed so many colors and sewn into so many shapes – after a certain point, a plain leather bag, no matter how nice the leather, can feel boring and repetitive.
Jimmy Choo has been trying for the past season or two to find ways to add texture in just the right way, and the results have been (to be blunt) mixed. Some of it has been great, some of it has been pretty terrible, but I appreciate that they’re trying to find a way to make their offerings really unique. Which brings us to the Jimmy Choo Cristina Pleated Leather Bag – are you feeling it, or is this another unfortunate sacrifice in the battle for good design? We’ve got an up-close shot of the bag’s texture after the jump. (more…)
With the recent Fab or Drab activity, it is time we make our Fab or Drab category a more active part of PurseBlog.
Today’s installment comes from an eclectic (and sold out) evening bag. The Celestina Espasol Filigree Clutch has every aspect of an ornate evening piece that may meet your fancy. The box shaped clutch is silver-plated and shows off cutout filigree design. The design is in the detail of this bag, so don’t just glance over it. The clutch needs a better look. (more…)
As of late I have been finding more reasons to love Burberry. Their leather bags continue to not only be fashionable and current but also affordable. And now I found a new Burberry bag that I want so badly to like but can’t help but look at it and see jean pockets.
I know many designers put two pockets on the front of their bags. This is nothing new. But there are times when I see a bag with pockets on the front that has me feeling like I am staring at a pair of jeans. And I am not sure the belted top detail helps the Burberry Tumbled Leather Tote look less like half a torso of someones body. Nevertheless, the bag still has many likable features. (more…)

I have chosen not to pass judgment on this bag, rather let you all make the decision. We all know the Jimmy Choo Ramona, Mahala, and Clutch have garnered a following. But what about this Mona? The Jimmy Choo Mona Large Tote features a black leather and suede body with gold hardware. The tote sports a zip fastening around the middle, which makes this bag act as an accordion, being able to lengthen or compact at the middle. By undoing the central zip, the bag becomes larger and will expose the logo plaque. The inside is lined in suede and has lilac ribbon trim. Buy through Net A Porter for $1,995.
There is a lot going on with this clutch. Not only is there a brown and white zebra print pattern, but the material is ponyskin. And Choo has added another dimension with the gray watersnake trim that seems to have a bit of a glimmer and shine to it. The Marin clutch has been a huge hit for Jimmy Choo, but is the Jimmy Choo Marin Zebra Clutch fab or drab? This is the oversized version, which if you don’t realize it, is huge. The dimensions are 14.5″ W x 9″ H. While NAP shows this with a moo moo-esque dress (better known as a Temperley London kaftan), this clutch would look great with a very simple outfit; skinny jeans, white top, and sexy heels. Does the ponyskin/watersnake/zebra combo put this bag over the top for you in a good way or bad way? Available through Net A Porter for $1,875.

If you have ever been to the South of France or turned on your TV to hear about a luxurious beach town, then you know St. Tropez. St. Topez has become the celebrity vacation spot. Pictures will surface of A-listers hanging out on their multi-million dollar yachts while they ride up and down the beach of St. Tropez. So for a place as luxurious as it is, does the Dior St. Tropez Tote deliver? It has been many moons since we have discussed Christian Dior bags on Purse Blog because, flat out, I didn’t like them. They were not worth ragging on, but they weren’t appealing in the least bit. But the Dior St. Tropez Tote is straight from the Resort Line and the fuchsia quilted shiny nylon is perfect beach bag material. The price is steep for a beach bag, but when in St. Tropez you need to be showing off your luxurious side. The silver tone hardware leaves this bag with a casual look, and I love the fact that there is a front zip pocket for easy access. The top is open, which makes for easy entry for both you and the pick-pocketer who bumps into you. The dimensions are 12 1/2″H x 15 1/3″W x 4 1/3″D. While it is also available in black, I would definitely opt for fuchsia. Buy through Saks for $1300.

Just as the Chloe Bay Bag began to warm up to me, Chloe releases in in a fresh new look. But is this look appealing or is it too stark? The Chloe Patent Leather Bay Bag sports white patent leather with contrast green zipper detailing. The color combination makes me feel like this would be in a tennis ad with Maria Sharapova. The rest of the bag is like the other Bay bags, sporting a large zip compartment on top, a double zip fastening compartment on each side, and canvas lining. It is fresh, and clean, but is it the right look? Via Net A Porter for $2100.

Upon first glance, the use of geometry draws you into the Fendi Patchwork Textured Clutch. The tortoiseshell plate offsets the textured shades of brown, black, and white leather. While this is deemed a clutch, the dimensions are indeed oversized, measuring 17″ W x 13.5″H. The should strap would come in handy, when the clutch got in your way as a solely hand held bag. But do they lines and shapes lure you in? Via NAP for $2370.

Marc Jacobs has been pushing his handbag line hoping to make it a great contender with the already popular designer handbags out there. As prices increase, Marc Jacobs is pushing his collection to go up against the on-top and expensive handbags in the fashion industry. The Marc Jacobs Hutton Clutch features black woven leather, reminiscent of Bottega Veneta yet not as intricate or delicate, along with a contrast flap over top. An ornate turnlock fastening on the front finishes the outside off, while the inside is lined with beige leather and there is a zip pocket. Dimensions are 11″ x 7″ x 2″. Buy through Net A Porter for $1550.

Are you ga-ga for green or is this green handbag gross? The Chloe Audra Patent Satchel is designed with shocking green patent leather and is finished off with silvertone hardware. Contrasting trim adds a dimension to the bag, as does the front pocket with turn-lock closure. There are double top shoulder straps with an 8″ drop. On the inside, like many Chloe bags, there is canvas lining and a zip pocket. Dimensions are 15½”W X 10″H X 7″D. Available at Saks for $1755.

Has the Spy phenomenon been completely worn out? While not personally a fan of the Zucca jacquard print, the compact Spy has been brought to life in the Fendi Zucca Spy Pochette. The leather trim offsets the print along with polished gold metal hardware. The ostrich-printed leather shoulder strap and front flap detailing add dimension. An interior patch pocket finishes off the pochette. Dimensions are 10″x 5.25″x 1.5″. Buy via eLuxury for $610.
