A couple months ago, word got out that Proenza Schouler would be doing a revamp of its super-popular PS1 Bag, but only a slight one, and a lot of you were a little confused by the news. The adjustments, which included a slightly sturdier leather and a slightly wider and more detailed hardware closure, were hard to imagine as big enough changes to warrant giving the bag an altered name, but it’s impossible to judge until a new design actually comes to market. Well, it’s here!

The PS1+ debuted on the brand’s website recently as part of the brand’s Pre-Spring 2017 collection, and so far it comes in two of the brand’s long-standing sizes: Tiny and Medium. Both sizes of the PS1+ are priced the same as their regular PS1 counterparts ($1,150 and $1,780, respectively), and if you’re a traditionalist, don’t worry: the traditional version of the bag isn’t going anywhere.

Most of the alterations are as subtle as many of you speculated they would be when we first wrote about this bag, and the sturdier leather is easily the most notable alteration on first glance. It does give the bag a more structured feel, even in photos, so it’ll likely be a welcome option for people turned off by the original PS1’s signature sag.

The most welcome change for me, though, is the addition of a true crossbody strap to the Medium PS1s. I have a Large that I carried crossbody for years, and the short strap on the Medium kept me from ever adding one to my collection, even though the PS1 is overall my favorite design and has been for a long time. The longer strap could potentially make a real impact on my shopping decisions, and I’m glad Proenza Schouler listened to customers enough to make that change.

So far, the PS1+ comes in five solid colors in the Tiny and four in the Medium, as well as a couple seasonal versions with contrasting trim in both. With the improvements and the consistent pricing, do you love this new PS1 or will you stick with the original? The strap is the one thing I don’t like about my PS1. It’s not quite long enough to be cross body at the biggest setting and isn’t quite short enough for me at the smallest. I may end up getting a PS1+ for the new straps!

I never liked the PS1 because it looked too much like a briefcase with a strap handle to me and now with the new structured form, I like it even less. That briefcase/messenger bag look is just not my aesthetic.

I liked how it was slouchy though. It took away the professional-y (? can’t think of an accurate way to describe it) and made it look more casual but still higher end. Now it looks a cartoonish and kinda fat with the thickness and prominent stitching.

it’s refreshing simply to see a new design without a major price increase!!

Looks a little busier that the original version. I like number 6. The fact that it keeps its shape is a definite plus.

I still love my PS1 (old design) although I do agree that it is a messenger bag mostly. However, it’s great for my business casual aesthetic and has lots of pockets that don’t get super bulky. I don’t have to worry about the abuse it takes too much as a work tote. My favorite versatile bag, period.
