Louis Vuitton continues its 130th anniversary celebration with a campaign featuring its most iconic bags alongside global icons and House ambassadors.
While the campaign features some of the Maison’s most important silhouettes, what stands out most is Zendaya’s tribute to the ever-iconic Speedy bag.
Originally designed to help cement the House’s visual identity, the Louis Vuitton Monogram quickly took on a life of its own. Today, it remains one of the world’s most globally recognized symbols of luxury, and the Speedy is one of the handbag world’s most celebrated silhouettes.
Zendaya Pays Tribute to an Icon
The road to icon status has been paved over Louis Vuitton Monogram’s 130-year history, and its big celebration coincides with the Speedy’s renaissance. We are so here for it.
While classic Monogram may be 130 years old, the Speedy is a bit younger, conceptualized in the early 1930s as Louis Vuitton’s first bag intended for daily carry. The bag was based on another Vuitton icon: the Keepall.
The Speedy: A Legacy That Transcends Generations
The Speedy was first introduced in size 30, and the smaller 25 was added in 1959 at the request of none other than Audrey Hepburn, whose small frame was too petite for the 30. Today, the Speedy comes in a range of sizes from nano to 40cm and has become quite synonymous with the Maison.
It is a true blank canvas, a jumping-off point for collaboration, and over the years it’s been given new life by everyone from Takashi Murakami and Urs Fischer to Yayoi Kusama and Stephen Sprouse.
The cornerstone design continues to transcend generations, and as Louis Vuitton continues its year-long celebration of LV Monogram, there’s no better time to fall in love (or back in love) with the Speedy bag.

I know a lot of people hate the Speedy for its ubiquitousness, but to me it’s a classic because it works:
Actually, the Catherine Deneuve video about the Alma is 1000 times better.
I bought a 25 a few years ago and just bought the 35 for travel a few weeks ago. They’re definitely longterm purchases for my collection — they’ll never look “dated.” So nice I bought it twice!
I was a Speedy hater forever, and then reconsidered and bought a vintage 30. It’s now one of my favorite bags. The monogram goes with everything, it’s light, durable, looks great with charms and carries everything you need. An absolute classic.
It’s my favorite Louis Vuitton. I have the classic monogram in a 40 and also the MC black from 2013.
LV can make beautiful and vivacious Zendeya look matronly and boring
She’s getting a paycheck meanwhile you’re at home eating cheezits looking at a blog judging the work of world-renowned artists collaborating with a multibillion dollar brand. Sit down.
HAHAHA that was funny. 🙂
I have happily added and re-added all of the heritage anniversary bags into my collection. I started this process last year and only need to add the keepall. Does anyone know which size keepall was the original? Would love to know. Thanks!
