Once you have more than a couple of bags, you’ve moved beyond practicality into collecting. Sure, I could argue that everyone needs a handful of bags: the tote, the everyday bag, the crossbody, the evening bag, and a fun bag, but the majority of the purpose of a bag isn’t needed beyond a single bag. But that isn’t why we are here; we are here because we love bags and our mutual adoration for these practical items that can also bring us joy and help further express our style and mood while carrying our intimate necessities goes beyond pragmatic. So you’ll see where I am going when I tell you that this Gucci Jackie 1961 Bag with appliqués stopped me in my handbag-loving tracks.
This bag is far more than a bag. It is art and beautiful, intricate, delicate, extraordinary art at that. There are countless iterations of the Gucci Jackie, many of which feature grained leather or the GG supreme canvas, but this bag far exceeds what you expect when you think of the Jackie, and that is a good thing.
Impeccable House Artistry
The artisanal craftsmanship shows with multi-colored and sized floral appliquès, which are set atop a natural colored raffia crochet body. This bag pays homage to the 70s fashion trends, which add a retro feel (this also happens to be very current-day Gucci) and is the most intricate reimagination to be added to the Beloved family. There’s a naturalness to the design, one that draws you in and is leveled up with brown leather trim, which gives a more polished finish.
This bag is lined with a cotton linen lining, and on the interior, you’ll find one open pocket and one zippered pocket. An additional strap can be attached to the bag with a buckle closure. This medium size is secured with the piston closure, and its dimensions are 14″ W x 9.8″ H x 1.8″ D.
If you know you’ll spend a lot of time in warm weather locations, this bag starts to make a bit more sense. I would use this bag often; it would become a showpiece that would get everyone talking too, which is a good thing. Our bags can be conversation pieces; for some of us, they are that safety net that can also oddly help us break the ice. This is one of those bags that, while I don’t need, I will keep coming back to, and knowing me – it will even make a dream appearance!
Crafty, yes. Artistic, no. Looks like something you’d buy in a market at a cruise ship stop in the Caribbean. The price is ridiculous. For that money you could buy something truly artistic from Delvaux, Valextra, Fendi, with natural rather than man-made raffia flowers, or hand-painted.
Ok so it’s not for anyone except for me… I got it!! Haha!
As the model on the cover picture demonstrates, it’s impossible to wear the bag properly due to the extra design elements.
It is reminiscent of the bags sold at too many tourist gift shops. I appreciate creativity & originality, but this isn’t it.
No. The flowers look like an afterthought.
Silly bag…how do you carry without squishing the 🌺 🌸🌼. The price p*sees me off as well. Hope no one buys it…we set the market and if you keep shelling out the prices will continue to climb.
I like the craftsmanship but this is not something I would purchase, I prefer the plain leather version.
I bought something just like this from a higgler at an open air market in Jamaica. That seller should be suing Gucci — LOL!
At least this made me laugh 😉
Most extraordinary Jackie bag you’ve ever seen??!! You’ve got to be kidding.
Come on! Replica of cheap tourist bags from the 70’s.
Is today April 1st?? I could have sworn it was August!
“…moved beyond practicality…” Megs, your first sentence speaks volumes. This isn’t for me, at any price, but especially not for $7K+
