Manolo Blahnik has always been a man who does things at his own pace. While almost all designers hopped on the platform bandwagon in the mid-2000s, Blahnik was steadfast, sticking with the single-sole shoes he's made for decades. Now that the shoe trend pendulum has firmly swung in his direction, the designer has set his sights on a bag line for the first time.
Women's Wear Daily reported earlier this week that although Blahnik has designed one-off handbags to match particular shoes during his career, the bags that are set to arrive in stores soon constitute the designer's first full line. If you've been looking for a new evening bag, look no further--the line is entirely clutches, all with intricate, jeweled ornamentation.
Blahnik fans will recognize some of the ornaments, including the Hangisi buckle, which now graces a square evening bag that's available in multiple colors of satin. The Hangisi Pump ($965 via Neiman Marcus) played a huge role in the second Sex and the City movie--it was the pair of shoes Carrie left in the closet of the new apartment Big bought her.
The association, as well as the formality of the bags, means that the design is likely to be a hit with brides, as the shoes have been for years. Take a look at the Hangisi clutch and more below; if you're interested in buying, the bags will be available before the end of July at the Blahnik flagships in both New York City and London, as well as at Liberty and Harrods, according to Vogue UK.
