I shared the Coach Empire Bag a couple of weeks ago, and you went crazy! Countless orders for the bag were placed, and while I was excited before I saw the sales, it also led me to realize that our predictions have been correct: Coach is experiencing a major resurgence.
It’s not that Coach ever entirely left the scene; it’s just hard to always be at the top. There are so many bag options out there that a brand can be at the top one day and then sit on the back burner the next.
After the success of The Empire, which continues to excite and has new renditions about to be released, Coach shared the news of Coach Originals.
Original Bags Modernized
If this doesn’t hit you right in the nostalgia, I don’t know if we can be friends. I’m kidding, of course, but if you feel this as deeply as I do, we are connected on this path.
This takes me back to my first bag—a Coach bag, a rendition of The Swinger, which was quickly followed by the Hamptons Hobo. I was a Coach girl from the start and still am when the right bag hits.
Lately, Coach has been hitting it out of the park.
The New Hamptons Hobo Bag
The compact bag trend continues to grow, and more brands are speaking to their younger clientele, the fresh college graduates obtaining their first jobs. These small shoulder bags have faced a resurgence thanks to the younger generations, but don’t count out us middle-aged ladies (I suppose I am officially now middle-aged at 41); these bags also speak to us.
The Hamptons bag is entirely inspired by the archives and intended to celebrate authentic New York heritage. The glove-tanned leather and silhouette date back to a 2005 classic for the house. It has a sleek clip hardware closure and a structured zip-top silhouette.
There is enough room for your phone, a small wallet, keys, and other essentials. The shoulder strap can be adjusted, which is always a plus.
I originally had this bag in a suede with a classic Coach monogram print. I wish I had kept that bag; I may be awake at 3AM tonight, beating myself up for not saving every single bag I ever owned.
More Originals Return
Other bags are also being brought out of the archives with modern touches. The Coach Swinger falls into the same category and is the first bag I owned from the brand. There’s also the fun 1964 Fringe Bag in different colorways.
Sometimes, I crave a piece of my past, which makes me feel the excitement and joy I first felt when I got into bags. Coach is always there for me to provide this, and Coach Originals is giving me everything I need.
Also, it’s bound to sell out completely, as specific colorways are already sold out, so if you want that feeling of nostalgia to soothe your bag-loving heart, I’d buy now!
That green Hampton’s hobo is adorable. I wonder if they’ll make it slightly larger? That one looks so small to me but I’m so used to larger bags. Love the color though!!!
The color really has my heart, too! I would like it a bit bigger, I am not a small bag person, but I am trying to pare things down!
Me too! I guess it could be a ‘going out for dinner with the girls’ kind of bag!! I might have to get it for that reason! 😉
Where are these “originals” being made? Are the leather and craftmanship up to the standards of the REAL originals?
So call out Dior for no longer being made in France.
Probably Vietnam like all of the other Coach bags. Even the originals were not all made in the USA. Many were made in Costa Rica.
My friend’s aunts worked as Coach artisans IN the USA. Thrown under the bus for cheap labor.
It’s been this way for about 25 yrs at least. Nothing you or I can do about it unfortunately. And it’s not just Coach. 🙁
No, but I certainly have the right to object to calling a collection “originals” when it’s nothing like the genuine originals in quality of materials or craftmanship.
Agree, maybe they should be called a ‘re-boot’ or Hampton’s 2.0 instead. Everything old is new again.
