Coach will forever be embedded in the handbag world, often being the entry brand into the accessory world for many. It was for me, and for that reason (and more), it forever holds a big part of my handbag journey.
Different bags from the brand have become sought after in recent years, but genuine excitement hit a viral moment with the new Coach Empire Carryall, and this bag’s largest version continues to sell out.
The Sizes & Details of the Coach Empire Carryall Bags
This is the new Coach Empire Carryall, a bag that is “meant to give a sense of real life,” as Stuart Vevers puts it. The bag’s natural grain leather is smooth yet still is meant to emulate a workhorse of a bag. Gone is the notion of that perfectly pristine bag, and back is the idea that a bag is meant to tell our story. It is intended to hold our most personal items, be used, loved, and serve a purpose.
This silhouette is vintage-inspired with its curved top, zip-top closure, and interior buckles that expand the side gussets. This very shape has taken over the handbag world, and you might feel like it is reminiscent of The Row Margaux. It is for me, too, which isn’t a bad thing.
This bag is both soft and structured, and Coach offers different sizes. The largest size, the 48, is the version that has received the most social media attention and love (it is also the version that happens to keep selling out).
An optional shoulder strap allows these bags to be carried by hand or over the shoulder, making them true usable designs. Different colors are also offered, each befitting the bag’s design and the approaching fall and winter seasons.
Better yet, the prices in this entire bag family are under $900.
Empire Carryall Comes to Life
How Vevers styled these bags for the Coach Fall 2024 show aligns with the significant moments happening in the bag world. Bag charms that tie back to the brand’s deep-rooted NYC heritage and roots, small bags attached, and ball caps give a casual appeal that feels very street-style inspired.
The other obvious mention is that big bags are back. While four different sizes are offered, the largest 48-inch size receives the most attention. While I always want to ensure I carry the right bag for the occasion, I also need a practical bag with a ton. I may have found my match in my quest for the perfect travel bag.
Are you allowed to carry it without 15 things hanging off of it? 😉
Thank you for the giggles. 🙂
I’m afraid to ask… how much does this puppy weigh? I’m old enough to remember the Chloe Paddington and the Marc Jacobs Stam bags. Gorgeous in their time, but carrying one was the cause of many a strained muscle.
LOVED my…still love my Chloé bags!! The good ol days!! They were heavy but beautiful!!
I had Paddingtons and Stams too and wow once you filled them it was like carrying a fridge on your shoulder. They were still beautiful though and oh, so of the time… 🙂 🙂
It’s not insanely heavy. The natural grain leather is pretty light.
I love it and I have been eyeing the size 40 for a few weeks. It looks awesome. I can’t wait for a blue or green hue.
I have to say these are really catching my eyes. Can anyone confirm if the bigger sizes 40/48 can handle a laptop? I need a work bag that can hold a laptop, charger and water bottle.
My MacBook Pro fits in the 40.
Yes, I took my laptop in and they both handle it just fine, although you may need to purchase an insert as these bags have no lining or pockets of any sort to hold something like that.
Autumn Beckman on youtube unboxed the 28 version and the 40 in the kind of ombre/patina’d effect – and I hadn’t liked either just seeing pics and OMG the larger one! It looks utterly gorgeous I have to say.
Their glovetanned leather isn’t what it used to be. Shriveled in patches when Coach leather conditioner applied. Trend item. Pass
How is this a trend item? It’s a tote… not particularly trendy in my opinion. Looks like a classic bag.
Trend as it’s a dupe for the Row Margaux bag, which also has its dupes from Prada and Ferragamo – flat-bottomed slightly domed top handled tote with side buckles – too many signature elements not to ultimately look trendy in hindsight
I think the Row Margaux is a classic by now….I would say it’s The Row’s version of the Birkin, which is also a classic. I think it’s safe to say the Empire bag is here to stay and will just be re-released in different colors, sizes, and leathers.
I agree and will gladly substitute this for the Row Margaux, which is expensive and always sold out online.
I really love the 48 but I’ve been seeing a few on eBay selling for much more…one sold for over $2k and now there’s one on there for over $3k!! I think they’re supposed to come out with the worn looking ones later but those will be selling for $1500 from what I’ve gathered online. It’s crazy!!
That’s crazy because I walked into my Coach store, yesterday, and bought one. Also, I went to Dillards, but theirs didn’t have any side buckles. The Coach S.A. said that both Dillards and Coach Outlet use different leathers and don’t add all of the elements.
The ones from the video with Stuart – I LOVE! I will try to get more intel from Coach for you all!
That would be wonderful Megs!! 🙂
So what’s the deal with the Tabby they’re all carrying along with it??
That’s the one I thought the article was about until I saw the pictures! I want that, not the big ugly old bag 😁
Nvm, found it: the Times Square Tabby
