Throwback Thursday: The Hottest Gifts of 2014

Here are the gifts that were trending 10 years ago

Chloe Drew

The year was 2014. Everyone was obsessed with dumping buckets of ice water over their heads for charity, listening to Taylor Swift’s “Shake if Off” on repeat, or watching Disney’s blockbuster Frozen for the ten thousandth time. The world could not stop talking about Ellen Degeneres’ star-studded Oscar selfie or giggling at John Travolta mispronouncing Idina Menzel’s name as ‘Adele Dazeem’ at that same awards show.

As for fashion, it was the year that the fashion sneaker went mainstream, with Adidas’ Stan Smiths becoming a go-to of the fashion crowd and spawning designer versions from everyone from Dior to Chanel. Stuart Vevers debuted at Coach while the fashion world mourned the loss of the great Oscar de la Renta.

Today, on this Throwback Thursday, in light of the holiday season, we scoured the internet for the top gift guides from a decade ago to bring you the products that we all, apparently, had to have ten years ago.

Do you remember any of these hot items?

Chloé Drew Bag

The Chloé Drew bag debuted in 2014 and was an instant attention grabber, capturing the hearts of fashion lovers everywhere. Designed by Claire Waight Keller, the hype surrounding the Drew felt reminiscent of the Chloé of the early aughts, when the Paddington had garnered wait lists into the thousands.

Back in 2014, a bag going viral was a relatively new phenomenon. Chloé’s buzzy hashtag #ChloéGirls, which users and bloggers alike shared alongside their Drew bags, was, in many ways, the kickstart of the influencer sphere as we know it today.

Tory Burch Fitbit Necklace

2014 was the peak fashion girl meets wellness girl era, and this Troy Burch FitBit necklace, which retailed for $175, was cited as a must-have by everyone from us to the NYT.

Fendi Bag Bugs

Few accessories had their moment, like Fendi’s Bag Bugs in 2014. They were super-covetable and incredibly hard to purchase, as they constantly sold out. We were all obsessed, and the Bag Bug even had its very own tPF thread. The popularity of the Bag Bug was unmatched, and early on in 2014, a $1,500 pair of Fendi Bag Bug Earmuffs even sold out immediately.

Eugenia Kim Pom Pom Beanie

Apparently, pom pom beanies were the it winter item of 2014, gracing nearly every gift guide we found. They came at various price points, but this one by Eugenia Kim was a popular, more luxe choice, coming in at $295.

Calvin Klein Modern Separates Sets

Does anyone else remember the chokehold that Calvin Klein underwear and bralette sets had on us in the early 2010s? I think I had a set in every color, and I’m pretty sure my mom put a red set in my stocking that year for Christmas!

They’ve all since been worn to death and tossed away, but I’m not sure why I never replaced them. Trending or not, they are still some of the comfiest sets to sleep or lounge in.

We Are Frends Taylor Headphones

I don’t remember these at all, but I saw them on many lists on the internet. They were apparently the must-have headphones for fashion girls.

Kendra Scott Large Branch-Bezel Drop Earrings

These earrings, but really Kendra Scott anything, were staples on gift guides back in 2014. I wish I could be thankful I never got into this trend, but I’m pretty sure I owned a dupe version of these at one point or another. *Shutters*
