In the last year, the chatter surrounding French luxury brand Joseph Duclos has gotten louder and louder. And since we began covering the brand, it has quickly worked its way up on our want lists thanks to its impeccable quality and cult-like appeal. Under the creative direction of Ramesh Nair, the brand continues to hone its timeless yet modern aesthetic.
Fashion people love to be part of an unspoken club, and a certain thrill comes from being the first to discover something. Joseph Duclos, which relaunched in 2021 with funding from French entrepreneurs and family offices, offers that distinct appeal.
The brand offers a few shapes and collections that have become favorites for all who discover the bags in real life. One of those beloved silhouettes is the Saint-Clair Leather Messenger, which strikes the perfect balance of casual yet chic. It’s a bag you’ll grab and go easily, making it the perfect everyday bag.

Inspired by Royalty
The Saint-Clair Messenger Bag draws inspiration from 18th-century cases worn by royal officers, acting as distinct accessories for highly respected individuals. The Saint Clair Messenger is a mix of fashion and function with clean lines and both a contemporary and sophisticated appeal.

If you want to add a bit of exclusivity, there’s the just-launched Violet colorway. Stitched and crafted in France entirely by hand of two premium leathers, only a select few craftsmen possess the expertise to execute the making of the Saint Clair.
The limited-edition Violet Saint Clair Messenger will be offered from now until it sells out, and with only 10 units available for sale, this bag is ultra rare.

Much as I love Duclos, this bag does not impress. First, why is it $700 more than the Fontélie? Esp as it comes with a canvas strap. Second, it’s very well made, no doubt, but it’s not the most challenging shape in the world. My LV Trevi PM was a lot trickier to make — and it was flawless when I got it over a decade ago and it’s still holding up beautifully. Or as another example, the Delvaux Brillant PM Surpiqué. Yes, only a few of the Saint Clair are available (I could say the same about my Polene Numero Deux) but a restricted release number alone isn’t enough.
It’s a combination of leather & Nubuck, but the latter shows wear too quickly.
Nubuck, lol God forbid someone breathes on it wrong.
The color on this bag is divine!
