Look for Less: Snakeskin clutches

Christian Louboutin Bikini Clutch, $995 via Net-a-Porter. MaxMara Embossed Evening Clutch, $486 via Matches UK.

Even though much of the handbag world seems to find Christian Louboutin’s non-shoe accessories hit or miss, every now and then he comes out with a bag that you absolutely can’t miss because not only is it adorable, but every retailer in the known universe ordered it in three colors. This season, it’s the Christian Louboutin Bikini Watersnake Clutch, which comes lovely, dusty shades of cerulean, turquoise and fuchsia, which you see above.

The only problem, naturally, is that the Louboutin clutch costs a thousand dollars. For those who would rather go the faux-snakeskin route (or who would rather have a similar clutch in a neutral instead of a bright), check out the MaxMara Embossed Evening Clutch for less than half the price of the Louboutin bag. Sure, MaxMara calls it embossed lizard, but I think we all know faux python when we see it.

Candy Pratts Price names her must-have bags for Fall – do you agree?

When Style.com Fashion Director Candy Pratts Price speaks, fashion people listen, which means that anything she included in her Vogue.com list of Fall 2011’s 45 most desirable accessories just got an instant injection of cool on top of the considerable amount that it probably already had. For the article’s bags, Pratts Price picked everything from glossy patent daytime satchels to tiny evening clutches festooned with animal images, and surely you’ll covet at least one of her selections.

You’ll probably also recognize a few of the choices from our coverage of the season’s accessories, and a few more are off-runway pieces that we’re all seeing for the first time. Do you agree with Candy’s choices? I love the cherry red Marc Jacobs satchel and have since I first saw it on the runway, and we all know how I feel about that green crocodile Valextra clutch. The Givenchy box evening bag, on the other hand? I’ll pass. Let us know your picks, and if Vogue skipped anything important, in the comments.

Proenza Schouler’s Linen and Leather PS1 Clutch is breezy like a spring day

Proenza Schouler PS1 Linen and Leather Clutch via Net-a-Porter for $735.

This may sound crazy, but I swear that when I first laid eyes on the Proenza Schouler PS1 Linen and Leather Clutch, the room immediately felt a few degrees cooler. Things are starting to heat up in Atlanta, as always happens so quickly after we get those first few perfect spring days, and ceiling fans and air conditioners are working overtime to keep everyone below the Mason-Dixon Line from going outside, lying facedown in the grass and falling asleep in the sun. This clutch, though, made me feel like I was standing right under a vent with the temperature turned all the way down.

Matthew Williamson makes a summer clutch in a winter color

When I think of summer and straw clutches, greige is not exactly the first color to spring to mind. Although it’s my favorite neutral (besides leopard print, which is a neutral too, I swear), there comes a time when winter has lasted far too long and the last thing you want to see is another sullen, pallid handbag. For me, that time came this past weekend when it felt like November during my trip up North.

If that time has yet to arrive for you, perhaps you’d like to bring greige into the new season with the Matthew Williamson Raffia Leather Clutch. Although this bag has all the island-themed elements of a prototypical straw clutch, they’re rendered in a shade that still screams fall. Well, as much as greige can scream anything, anyway.

Jerome Dreyfuss: Too much or just enough?

Jerome Dreyfuss Lucien Python Shoulder Bag via Net-a-Porter for $1280

Parisian designer Jerome Dreyfuss has seen his profile rise quite a bit over the past few seasons. Net-a-Porter has picked up his luxury-contemporary bags for Spring 2011, and the Jerome Dreyfuss Lucien Python Shoulder Bag is a great place to start if you want to understand his aesthetic. The colors and combinations may be a little left-of-center, but the materials are top-notch at a price that isn’t too terrible, in the grand scheme of things.
