Marc by Marc Jacobs Lux Laminated Wallet
Many big designers have introduced a younger sister to their high-end brand, the more affordable and sometimes younger look. This furthers the outreach of the designer and helps establish the name. One person who has make an empire around his name is Marc Jacobs. Love him or hate him, Marc is an absolute mastermind. And under his high end collection comes his Marc by Marc Jacobs line. While there are some items that get a little too cheap for my liking, there are some that are still cheap but cute. The Marc by Marc Jacobs Lux Laminated Wallet is designed with vinyl-coated logo canvas with a cursive “love marc” print and hearts. There is a plaque on the front that reads, “Marc by Marc Jacobs, Standard Supply, Model #, Type: Workwear”. The flap top is done in blue vinyl. Sure it is a a tad cheesy, but this is a great great gift and a cute accessory. Best part is the price. This is under $60! Now if you did not like it before, you are liking it right? You are sitting there thinking of who you know that may need a gift soon and realizing this is perfect. Told you it wasn’t too bad. Buy through eLuxury for $58.

Marc Jacobs Collection Day Fluo Key Pouch
The trend for spring is bright colors, and Marc Jacobs is all over it. The bright neons are hard to pull off for most (granted Victoria Beckham can do this pairing matching neon shoes and a dress). For me, neon colors are still very 80’s. But the 80’s were not that bad, right? And adding that perfect bit of spunk will spruce up your outfit and look without going overboard. If you really are wary of going overboard but are craving a piece of neon goodness, the Marc Jacobs Day Key Pouch available in pink, yellow, and mint fluorescent goatskin is a perfect match. The size is small, 5.5″x 3″x 0.25″, but can still be hand held if you are literally only carrying your keys, credit cards, and some cash. The attached keychain can either hang outside or be tucked in. I would opt for this in a black bag. With the doleful weather in NYC, the streets are filled with black. It would go against the grain to add a pop of color, though spring really is around the corner and spring craves bright bold colors. Today has been so dreary, and between the umbrellas and ponchos the only color lining the streets of New York are the yellow Taxi’s. But I am ready for bright bold colors! Vlad and I were in a showroom today browsing Fall 2008 bags, but the remainders from Spring are what caught my attention. The bold colors were eye catching and refreshing. I am still waiting to find my perfect pop of color to make my late spring purchase. If you are looking for an everyday bag that is not too much of a splurge but still a great way to add color to your wardrobe, the Marc by Marc Jacobs Faridah Leather Bag is a great option. Marc Jacobs has had Miss Marc grace the front of his Faridah bag before, but this grained grass leather version is easier to wear. Now easier to wear is relative, because the bright pop of green will surely stand out. The bag has a great slouch to the hobo shape, with gold hardware and a shoulder strap. Mama’s got a brand new bag! Leave it to Victoria Beckham to carry the latest and greatest in the handbag world. We all know that Victoria is friends with Marc Jacobs and has been seen carrying Marc Jacobs handbags before. Over the weekend Victoria spent time without David and with the girls. She hid from the camera and used her new Marc Jacobs bag as a protective force. Her bag, is a stunning bag from the Marc Jacobs runway and an exclusive for the Spring and Summer 2008 line. The Marc Jacobs Mika Bag is an exclusive for Spring 2008 and available in black, taupe, salmon and lemon. Victoria Beckham opted for the taupe, which is offset with green trim and magenta leather woven through silver metal handles. While the bag is simple, the colors are bold and brilliant, looking much more vibrant in the pictures and giving the bag a very artistic touch. Marc Jacobs Bag on Bag
There was an earful of negative comments about the Marc Jacobs Color Block Pouchette bag. While some believed it was merely Marc paying an homage to Hermes and other commented that Hermes was not the first to design the lock, the majority did not care for the bag. I am a fan of Marc Jacobs but that does not mean that many of his bags are not my style. After the pouchette Marc needed to redeem himself. Unbeknown to him the next Marc Jacobs bags I cover are more horrendous than the first. These are not the only two, but there is an entire line of the Marc Jacobs Bag on Bags. These bags are supposed to give an artful feel, with a front pouch attached to the main bag. There is a version at eLuxury that shows off a red grained leather tote with a front pouch attached with sequin detail. Then there is a mesh tote version at eLuxury which sports a pink lace bag on the front. I would have easily been able to love this bag more if the pouch glued on front is removable, therefor making it a two-for-one deal, but the totes merely have a pouch stuck on the front. Why would you even care to use this pouch? Is there even a point really? And if it is just for looks, the look is nothing to my liking. I am a lover of art pieces but this is not even my kind of art. All I want to know is what was Marc Jacobs thinking? The only way I want to see this bag is on its way down the runway for a show, and then put away or on exhibit for good. Marc Jacobs The Handy Clutch
The clutch will always been a wardrobe necessity. You must have an everyday bag and a clutch, even if you are not a bag lover whatsoever. Marc Jacobs named this clutch practically, simply, and it is refreshing. No need for a new big name, or a thought our process, this clutch is handy, hence it is named the Marc Jacobs The Handy Clutch. Because really, what clutch is not handy? Stick it in your hand and off you go. Everything about this Marc Jacobs bag is simple. The look is simple, the color is simple, the name is simple, and the price is simple. The clutch is made of black leather and has an optional-removable wrist handle. The logo plaque on the front is subtle, as it is done in black and blends in well. The inside features a zip pocket. Sometimes with all of the added ‘things’ in our lives, all we need is simple. This is simple and quite affordable! Buy through Net A Porter for $330.

Marc Jacobs Color Block Pouchette
Some say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Though this is true, many times I really beg to differ. It is easy to sit back and say this phrase when referring to someone else, but when your idea, your grueling work, your sleepless nights, are copied it feels 100% horrible. Actually, it feels so bad you could go find that ’stealer’ and knock them over the head with a salami. When a huge name like Marc Jacobs ‘imitates’ from an even bigger name, Hermes, do you think there are similar feelings? Most likely not, seeing as Hermes is one of the most exclusive design houses in the world. Furthermore, imitating too closely will only make Marc Jacobs look bad. The Marc Jacobs Color Block Pouchette is a case of imitation gone wrong. When imitating, you must take what you see and do it better, or else it is a total flop. This pouchette is a flop, a colorful disaster, and just does not mesh. The colors are indeed bold but they hurt my eyes with the hues placed together, lilac quilted leather and orange trim. The major problem is the double flap top which is finished off with a turn-lock closure and padlock detail. Marc might as well of come clean and just called it the ‘iconic Hermes padlock’. Not only am I not feeling it, but many of the ladies and gents on the Purse Forum are saying shame on Marc Jacobs! Pre-order through Bergdorf Goodman for $1275.

Marc Jacobs Stam
Jessica Stam must be thrilled that the bag Marc Jacobs named after her continues to thrive. The Marc Jacobs Stam is back again, for another season after about four years of being in the spotlight. The Stam has not yet made its way into my handbag collection. Sure, I love the bag, but it just has not grabbed my attention fully yet to the point of going out to buy it. As the ‘it bag’ craze dies down, it is great to see the lovers of this bag continue to year for it. For all the gals that love pink, the Marc Jacobs Stam Quilted Satchel is ready for spring in a sweet plum color that is very feminine. The gold tone hardware is shown on the chunky chain shoulder strap and the kiss-lock closure top. This bag features a frame top and then the soft quilted leather body; which has proven to be a huge success season after season. There is also an easy access front zip pocket. This bag is only available for pre-order and also comes in ivory. But the plum, which resembles more of a pink hue, would get my vote. Pre-order through Neiman Marcus for $1,350.

Not all of you agree, but I have been highly impressed and satisfied with the Marc by Marc Jacobs handbag line lately. No need to expect the most supple leather with lush suede lining, but expect a good bag and a great price. The Marc by Marc Jacobs Lovely Luz Messenger Bag is the perfect school bag, with inside pockets for organization and a 17″ drop which makes this an easy messenger bag or shoulder bag. The color of this bag is great for everyday, every season, and every year of college (unless of course you are on the 7 year plan). There is silver tone hardware with a circle logo plaque on the front. The front features a slight gather and a top zip closure. Measurements are perfect for notebooks, planner, and essentials (14″W X 13″H X 2½”D). Buy through Saks for $398.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Messenger Bag
Upon first glance this bag is very Chloe-esque. The black stitch against the white leather shouts out house of Chloe, giving a sturdy look. But you know what? Not only is this not a Chloe bag, this is a Marc by Marc Jacobs bag. And wait until you hear the price! This is such a bag deal I am in shock. Too good to be true? Maybe! This Marc by Marc Jacobs Messenger Bag uses cream textured leather and silver hardware in a messenger style to make a great school bag, everyday bag, and affordable bag. This is not just affordable in handbag lover terms, this is flat out affordable! It is not huge either, it is reasonable (12″ W x 9.5″ H), but it can fit papers, folders, and an agenda. It may not be big enough for a large load, but it can definitely work for many people. Actually, I would love to hear that it will be done in a bigger version which would make it perfect for every class goer that must carry larger books. There is also a zip fastening pocket on the front and a flap closure with magnets. Buy through Net A Porter for a mere $298.
