Net-a-Porter to Donate 20% of Today’s Profits to Charity for International Women’s Day

Today is International Women’s Day, and if you’re not familiar with it, plenty of fashion brands and companies are interested in broadening your awareness. The day, which was originally founded in the early 1900s is intended raise awareness for gender inequality and celebrate female accomplishment the world over. Naturally, an industry as female-focused as fashion has taken note, Net-a-Porter and beyond.

The most impressive commitment to International Women’s Day that we found was from Net-a-Porter, which, in addition to launching its own hashtag campaign to celebrate female empowerment (upload your own photo on Twitter or Instagram with #Empoweredby), will be donating 20% of the profits from today’s sales on Net-a-Porter.com to the United Nations Women’s Fund for Gender Equality. That is no small chunk of change, so if you’ve been planning on a new spring purchase or two, now’s the time to do it–you’ll be aiding a wonderful cause in the process.

Over at DVF.com, Diane von Furstenberg, who has always been particularly active in female-focused philanthropy, has provided a note on the strength of women, plus a reading list of some books on the battles that particular authors have fought and won.

Jimmy Choo is also celebrating, albeit offline. The brand hosted a cocktail reception celebrating the day in India this week, and in our books, that’s worth noting.

Not every brand chooses to aid charities that speak to the concerns of their customers, but we’re always happy when some of our favorites step up.
