This Sporty, Lightweight Marc Jacobs Bag Collection is Perfect for Summer Fun

Introducing the Marc Jacobs Sport Bags

Every season provides its own set of sartorial challenges, but only sometimes do those issues extend to bags; after all, they’re not expected to keep you warm or cool. One of the clear cases when bags make a difference, though, is summer: people are more likely to be outside, on their feet, having the type of fun that requires moving around and being near water, sand, dirt, grass or a variety of other things that aren’t necessarily conducive to the health and wellbeing of your very expensive leather bags. Which is why the new Marc Jacobs Sport Collection has arrived right on time.

True to its name, the Sport Collection features mostly nylon bags in a variety of structures with a look that’s casual, athletic and, well, sporty. They come in a colorful array of mixed solids and prints, and, importantly, there are a variety of hands-free options, including two styles of belt bags and a crossbody.

The stars of the show are the roomy totes, though, which use an unusual structure most commonly associated with the Hermès Lindy Bag: two top handles that come up from the sides instead of the front and back panels, plus a shoulder strap that attaches to the two top handles. It gives the bags a distinct look that’s generally not found in this price range, but it doesn’t sacrifice any functionality to do it.

Top to bottom, though, all of these bags are meant to be functional in situations that many others aren’t; even the leather options use a lightweight version of the material that won’t weigh you down. They’re for times when you’re having fun, and they feel like it. The prices are also great for a bag that you intend to really use; the collection starts at $295 for the belt bags and nylon totes.
