When was the last time you looked at a Marc Jacobs bag and thought, “Whoa, that’s a great bag?” Sometime around the entré of the Stam, right? Well that’s exactly what I said, out loud, by myself, to my computer in sudden fit of excitement when I saw the colorblocked satchel at top left from Marc Jacobs Resort 2012. I mean, that’s a good bag, right? My level of enthusiasm for that design has left me confused and excited.

I mean, let’s be real here; most handbag addicts can spot a Marc Jacobs bag from a mile away, and whether or not that’s a good thing depends on how much you like the designs that Jacobs puts out every year. They often don’t vary much from what we’ve seen before except for a runway bag or two, and there are certainly some repeats in this group, but the new stuff looks fresher and more exciting than it has in more than a few seasons. Let’s hope that this is but a small preview of the accessories to come in the brand’s Spring 2012 presentation. More photos after the jump.

      • Sadly, I am not. I should probably get around to applying to be one…

I am the exact opposite I usually adore Marc Jacobs bags but these miss the mark for me.

      I agree.

The top ones remind me a little of kids’ lunchboxes. I like the solid Orange at the bottom best.

  • ~bastet

The orange one is my favorite. I also like the white and yellow one. I’m torn on the pink/blue/light green(?) colorblocked one. My first reaction was that I loved it, but after letting it sink in, I’m not so sure. I have no idea what I’d wear with it!

The orange one on the right looks so pretty! I’m loving the color and the style, but not the pebbled leather. Wish it came in the smooth kind.

  • Kellie

The wallet looks like Lilly Pulitzer??

I’ve come back and looked at this three times now, and I still like the colorblock turquoise/raspberry/mint one at the top. But those are my colors, and I love almost everything MJ does. I agree that some of these look like lunchboxes, but I sort of like how he’s playing on that shape.

I usually dislike MJ so i was surprised when i read that it was his designs because i had a ‘wow!’ moment in my head!

It seems to me like people who love MJ aren’t thrilled with this new line but those who usually shy away from him are suddenly drawn in!

  • Grace

I love bright colors! Wanted to share some other bags and outfits that in the color blocking trend.

I like the orange and the cream colored number 7.
I must say that I’m more impressed with his Marc by Marc Jacobs line.

  • 19yearslater

These are impressive and refreshingly different from the normal MJ fare. I love the way MJ is embracing the orange trend. Most successful brand to do so thus far, I’d say.
