Pharrell’s First Collection for Louis Vuitton Drops Today

Plus! A look inside the dedicated pop-ups you won't want to miss

Louis Vuitton is kicking off the year with a bang; Pharrell’s highly-anticipated design debut for Louis Vuitton Men’s hits stores today, and it deserves all the hype.

First presented back in June in an intricate presentation on Paris’ oldest bridge, the Pont Neuf, Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring 2024 is an ode to Pharrell Williams’s humble beginnings in Virginia and Louis Vuitton’s own start in Paris.

Pharrell’s design debut was hyped from the minute his appointment was announced. He came to wow, and wow he did, embracing the Maison’s storied codes and reimagining them in interesting and exciting new ways.

New Year, New Vuitton

When models hit the runway, the excitement was palpable, and the collection oozed a new energy, home to various thematic elements. Themes like Damoflage —a pixilated camo version of the brand’s classic Damier pattern- appeared on new and old bags, while Monogram was celebrated this season.

The collection is finally here today, dropping online and in-store; fans can finally see the bags up close and in person. Additionally, this exciting new chapter is celebrated with over 50 global activations. On the East Coast, shoppers can visit a pop-up at 104 Prince Street, SoHo, NYC, dedicated exclusively to the men’s collection.

Open to the public from today through mid-March, the space is modeled around the Pont Neuf, with gold architectural elements inspired by the landmark. The floors are an ode to the Maison’s storied Damier pattern, an integral House code used throughout the collection.

Fans won’t want to miss the secret by-appointment-only Speedy room behind an unassuming door in a smaller location around the corner from the pop-up. There, footage from the runway plays on a large screen, and Pharrell’s bold Speedy bags, infamously worn by Rihanna, sit on display.

The same exclusive experience also occurs in other pop-ups worldwide, most notably at the brand’s flagship on the Champs-Elysée. Take a walk through the space above with us and discover the collection via Louis Vuitton.

It is exactly what I was expecting…unfortunately.

Who is actually buying this tacky tasteless garbage??? First off, anyone who’s still buying LV bags in 2024 have ZERO style/taste whatsoever.

Nyp1217

I would agree with you – Pharell has excellent personal style but no one can save LV

EconomicallySavvy

😂😂the passion exuding from your comment actually made me laugh. Yikes!!!

You NEVER have anything nice to say….so incredibly rude.

You STAY mad….about any and every designer…good thing it hasn’t stopped progress with anyone or thing! #youBIGmad

Jaime

Have you seen an LV store lately…packed. Speaking from Scottsdale. Style should be original…if you don’t like don’t buy. Its ok to dislike personally.

I recently bought the Alma PM Malletage in black. I like it. I’m still using the Trevi PM I bought over a decade ago and a decade from now I expect to still be using my Alma.

Another celebrity “designer”… le sigh 🤦🏽‍♀️

A whoooooooping $12400 for that canvas-looking leather keepall?? Heeeeeeell NO! I know no one’s forcing me to like or buy this but I’d rather buy a vintage Kelly or Birkin than that. Hard Pass 😉

I see it as having fun with fashion. It will tickle some LV collectors fancies.

Modern times frown upon flaunting one’s wealth by having a indebted child-servant whose sole task is to carry one’s sandwich, so we must make do with a $3300 leather baggie to allow our peers to judge our wealth instead. Le sigh.

Really like the Damier pop. Nice updated take on the classic pattern. I appreciate the RTW as well. Yes the leather pieces are ridiculously priced. But everything designer is currently over priced. Still pleasantly surprised at Pharrell’s collection. Well done.

The comments section here is so fun 🙂 I’ll add my two cents too:

This collection is a banal, timid, yet cohesive collection that works better as a sum of its parts than it does as individual pieces. It looks like Pharrell produced this collection as if it were an EP featuring the title track “Lunch Bag.” Unfortunately for him, it’s all too easy for us educated consumers to see that “Lunch Bag” comes a decade too late on the heels of Denma’s original hit singles “Trash Bag”, “IKEA Bag”, and “Chinatown Tarp Bag”.

Tastefully bland: I wonder what value people think they are paying for with this collection. Is this targeted at LV insiders who know (and care) about the vision of milquetoast-Virgil AKA Pharrell? Is the reason it feels so mid because Pharrell is trying to find the intersection between quiet luxury, streetwear, and LV? I spy with my marketing eye—somewhere in a creative review session, the words “streetwear, but like, elevated” were probably thrown around.

Visually timid: Pharrell had big shoes to follow; comparisons between him and Virgil would be imminent. I think it got to him. He’s not off-(his own)-brand by producing something so fun, bold, and bright. But it’s also… SO safe. The upside here is everything is extremely wearable, and there will still be folks willing to pay. But why the timidity? Either he was feeling uninspired, or he overdelegated to members of his team who were very focused on a literal interpretation of “Pharrell.” Takashi Murakami and Jeff Koons this ain’t.

Cohesive as a vibe: Methinks the creative room probably featured some directors babbling about “the collection as an integrated brand experience.” fwiw, this collection really works as a cohesive collection and is stunning when viewed as a whole. In that way Pharrell betrays his music roots—the collection feels like it’s a staged performance, and that it’s more about vibes and beats than it is about main characters and personalities. The primary colors look amazing when all put together in a pop-up display, and it’s the colors that steal the scene, not the silhouettes. Pharrell at this point in his career might be designing more for the show and the gram of the show than the objects themselves.

I wholeheartedly agree with Pinksy777.

A paper bag look-a-like? Really!?!

Krissy

I actually really love the new line. The pixelated Damier (“Damoflauge”) is fun and the colored canvas damier is beautiful and vibrant – I picked up a card organizer w/the blue.
As for “the paper bag” bag, I think it’s funny and ironic. If you have the $$ to blow and you like it enough, why not? People love the LV name and love walking out with a purchase; I see people proud to carry their purchases out of the store. Why not make a leather version of the boutique’s bag? lol. And it’s like Pop Art, really.

Ken

I went to see actual collections at Omotesando, Tokyo store the other day. Most of products were available so I had good chance to examine some pieces. My first reaction for a Speedy( Damier Pop 50 & 40 )was quite nice surprise. It was well made, smooth zipper and thought LV used better quality leather handles?
Anyway I like it very much but still not sure if I really need it……some clothes are nice as well as small products. Anyway overall it’s very expensive but I may get few things perhaps 🤔

lin

interesting but it was already stated that even for LV some of his designs are way over priced. The lunch bag is cute.

Karina David

Virgil’s was overpriced also.

Adangerousbeauti

You didnt feature the sunglasses that look like his own customized Tiffany’s.

Karina David

I hate those glasses they’re so unflattering.

Lydia

honestly it doesnt look special nor creative. It’s tacky and outdated, even…
