After months of speculation, a guest-designed collection, and rumors galore, the mega of all rumors hit the internet, and as of 1pm today, it has been confirmed.

Pharrell Williams is the new Creative Director of Louis Vuitton Men’s. The news comes 14 months after the death of former artistic director Virgil Abloh, who was a friend of Pharrells.

The Next Chapter

Like Abloh, Pharrell is considered a visionary within the music, art, and fashion worlds, and his creativity holds no bounds. Over the last twenty years, he has cemented his role as a global creative force. Given his long design history of collaborations, the progression to Creative Director at a luxury design House comes as no surprise. An announcement from the brand described the partnership as a natural alignment, further cementing Louis Vuitton’s values of innovation and cultural significance.

“I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men’s Creative Director. His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter.” – Pietro Beccari, Louis Vuitton’s Chairman and CEO.

Pharrell’s first collection will debut in June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris.

WTF! Pharrell??? No thanks. But he may have bring Takashi Murakami back……collaboration is only way for him to survive at LV.

I am super disappointed in this choice. We need a real designer, not a celebrity creative director. Hopefully, he will help move away from relentless street wear, but still… this move doesn’t make me excited about LV RTW.

Pharrell has super cool style but he is not a designer and has taken the top post from many up and coming designers who went to school, honed their craft and put in the work. His appointment was mostly done for his celebrity status and clearly not for his work.
