Louis Vuitton Gave Its Iconic Twist Bag a Relaxed Makeover

Let's take a look at this season's latest addition to the Twist line-up

Introduced in 2015, the Louis Vuitton Twist bag quickly became a new classic for the brand following its release for the Cruise season. It was designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, who looked to the archives for inspiration, reimagining the Epi Trapeze clutch from the Maison’s archives.

Defined by its unique, bold LV Twist lock closure, it has remained a staple in Louis Vuitton’s line-up, reinvented season after season with stylistic updates that modernize the now-iconic shape. This summer, the Twist sees a complete makeover for the first time in years with the addition of a brand-new silhouette to the Twist Family.

Introducing the Louis Vuitton Soft Twist

Launched earlier this summer, the Soft Twist takes a brand signature and offers a more relaxed, casual feel. The design combines style with comfort, meant to take the chicness of the Twist Bag and reimagine it for the everyday.

The Soft Twist features a slouchier silhouette crafted from super-soft calf leather and a roomier interior, designed to function as the perfect daily carry.

To add to its functionality, the Soft Twist features multiple carrying options, including two adjustable straps—a mid-length strap for shoulder or top handle carry and a longer strap for crossbody wear (both can be removed entirely).

Aside from the lack of structure, one of the major differences between the soft version and the original is that the bag’s defining feature—the LV Twist lock isn’t functional but is fitted to the front as a snap. Overall dimensions are 10.6″ L x 7.5″ H x 3.5″ D, with an open interior that features a slit pocket and a zippered pocket.

The retail price is $4,700. I don’t always love relaxed versions of structured favorites, and something about this one feels slightly unfinished. Thoughts?

Wow, $4700.00? Nope!

seattleminimalist

If you obscure the LV logo, it’ll look like a $150 dollar bag. The leather on the LV looks nice and soft, though.

Karen

Cos Bernard Arnault needs to be a top of the game and needs more $$$$$!
LV certainly became a first fashion brand without quality but their marketing is absolutely smart and working very well to sell their products. I personally wish to see some people will wake up soon.
Just not worth to spend your money. I used to purchase so many LV bags and clothes but now I feel regret so badly…………

Susan Schencker

That is really really high. Past my number for paying for a purse

This bag looks like a throwback Coach bag with an ugly, big logo attached. (I am not dissing Coach in any way btw) The price is nuts.

E Arians

I said the same before I read your comment. Coach at multiples of the Coach price.

Can

Same thought

Hervé

Remember that most people in Europe don’t even know what Coach is.

Sandy

Totally agree

Mrs BSK

You are absolutely correct! The coach logo would look better. What are they thinking?

Ping

THAT is totally my reaction too!

Ping

OMG…is me or it looks like the classic coach bag from the 80’s …down to the color! no thank you…I still have the original coach that I paid for $25 in 8th grade!!! hahaha

Mrs BSK

What a sad bag for $4700! I’d rather get something lovely from Coach or even Portland Leather for something this casual and common.

LINDA

Very overpriced. The V closure is stationary and a magnet as a closure and is very heavy. I can’t believe the prices coming out. It’s sending me to discover the preowned market and having a great time looking! And it seems a lot of the styles are from old archives at ridiculous prices.

Viora

I KNOWWWW… it is stupid of them, I think TWIST LOCK SHOULD ALWAYS BE FUNCTIONAL, it is THE FEATURE and should aways be A FEATURE for every Twist line! I bet it would be the next season’s line decision for every Twist. #marketingstrategy

Didi

this is a rip off on classic Coach bag, lmao

King Charles' Leaky Inkpot

Yup. A dead ringer for the Coach Legacy (65th Anniversary) Ali bag,

Sapph

Why would you make the closure nonfunctional?? That’s the coolest part of the twist bag! Now it essentially looks like a heavy magnet stuck on a floppy bit of material. Nooo thank you!

Bec

Yep, the twist lock is the thing I like about the bag!

SonShownu

for a price like that, i guess time to buy from local product .

spoiledinseattle

I was intrigued until I saw the price

Amy

Hmmm, make a good dent in furnishing my new house or buy this sad blah overpriced bag. LV has been disappointing for years and their prices are in no way matching their product. Never say never but I’m pretty sure I’m over them.

ades*****

I love the classic look but it is just too expensive.

Karen C.

Same here – I thought of my first Coach bag the second I saw the photo!

E Arians

I think these soft versions are looking more like Coach than Louis Vuitton

Katy

I love it!! I can’t wait to try it on. The Twist is one of my favorite bags and this version looks awesome for fall. Thanks for sharing!

Fiona

LV have lost their mind! This is an insane price for such an average bag. What a joke. They think so little of us, their customers.

Susan Pietri-Marino

looks exactly like a Coach Soft Tabby but at an exorbitant cost!

Gigi

I love it!

Viora

I personally think the LV TWIST LOCK is TRÉS MAGNIFIQUE!

seattleminimalist

The bag is beautiful, but it reminds me a lot of COACH Glove-tanned Spectator flap bag with the simple turnlock. The price of the LV is ridiculous, though. I’d rather go buy the vintage Coach for a much much lower price. 🙂
