While my obsession with designer bags has never left me, the degree of intensity has ebbed and flowed over the years based on where I’ve been in my life. I took a pretty large pause on bag buying when I was pregnant and then had our two kids, my love for bags wasn’t gone, but I spent more time looking at kids’ items than bags in my spare time (yes, even when I’m not working I still find myself looking at bags).
But lately, my passion for Hermès has come back full force, and I can’t seem to stop thinking about one bag, well, one major style of bag, in particular: the Hermès Kelly.
Why Kelly, Why Now?
It’s funny because when I first decided I wanted an Hermès Birkin, I remember thinking to myself how much stiffer in appearance and overall aesthetic the Kelly seemed to me. I thought it would age me and was for more mature people, and my, how times have changed. The Kelly is no longer seen as the older, more demure bag among the two most coveted Hermès bags. The optional shoulder strap makes it more usable, and the mini versions are in line with modern trends.
If you are an Hermès fan, you know that colors are as important as the bag itself, and right now, not only is it nearly impossible to get a bag, it’s doubly hard to get a bag in the color you want. Because of this, I wind up browsing Fashionphile to find my latest fixation.
And right now, you’ll see my wishlist is rather extensive. You’ll also notice that I tend to be drawn to the most expensive bags (that is, when it comes to resale price… supply/demand, yadda yadda). That’s the thing, I really want a Mini Kelly, and those are some of the hardest bags to find right now, which leads to a hefty resale markup.
There are plenty of other options as well, from the larger sizes that have a more throw-around leather (and are much more affordable in the scheme of Hermès prices) to the Kelly Pochette I used to spend my days agonizing over (Victoria Beckham had quite a few and I became hooked). I’m including some of the glorious bags that tend to occupy part of my brain space in hopes of manifesting that perfect addition to my collection.

Nobody does colors better than Hermes — each one more desirable than the next. I wish I had a closet full of them. I would put a sofa in the middle and call it my “happy room”.

Yes same here. All hermes shade of greens are love love love! My favorite is malachite but il take any i can get. Will get there Megs. It will happen to us one day hopefully in the next 2 years for me.
Me too! Never thought I would be a Kelly fan but recently came across a Kelly 25 in Vert Cypress Swift…a more relaxed leather so less stuffy…snagged on REBAG. I do like the strap option and the size is perfect
The Kelly is my favorite. Actually love the 28 and 32, and eventually would take a Kelly II…the colors are stunning as always with Hermes. I love the blues and pinks!
