Resort 2027 is a Season of Reinvention for Hermès Ready-to-Wear

Focused on structure and proportion, and heavily influenced by the Kelly design, the bags of the runway forcefully echoed the themes of the season.

Hermes Resort

Hermès presented its most recent runway show last week in Bel Air, Los Angeles; a location where, as designer Nadège Vanhée put it, one can feel a touch of the Old World meeting the New World, while at the same time opening one up to life’s possibilities. Los Angeles, “where you reinvent yourself”, was the perfect backdrop for Resort 2027, which amply lived up to this theme.

Hermès Ready-to-Wear: Building Upon the Past to Create a Vision for the Future

Reinvention was clearly front-of-mind for Vanhée, who sent down the runway more accessible, less exaggerated, less referential silhouettes than in recent seasons, not echoing them so much as tearing them down and rebuilding upon them, in effect reenvisioning what Hermès ready-to-wear can offer. Her restraint was evident and proved effective, allowing the contrast of materials, textures, and proportions to be the focus.

The Bags of Resort 2027: Thoughtful and Precise Design

The collection, which Vanhée aptly titled “Silhouettes on the Horizon”, alludes to the forward-looking direction of the season and what is yet to come, as well as the house’s elusive 16th métier (which has also been doing a bit of reinvention lately).

As with ready-to-wear, there was a sense of greater precision and restraint in both design and style, with a tendency toward greater structure. When viewed as a group, one gets the impression that each bag was designed with a specific need (or use, or even person) in mind and that, as much as possible, the considered needs served by any one style is distinguishable from those of the others.

The numerous bags shown also followed the themes of the season’s ready-to-wear, with some notable reimagining of older designs. Bags shown included:

  • The return of the Sac Mallette, with its distinctive Electrum (two-tone) hardware, interior gusset, and adjustable strap;
  • The newest Kelly iteration, this time as a flat clutch bearing the turnlock closure.
  • The two-handled Pliplat, which most recently appeared in Hermès’ Autumn-Winter 2026 runway show.
  • Le Petite Sac is a small, simple shoulder bag with no distinguished front or back. Per Hermès, the main compartment has an interior pocket and is “designed to fit a mobile phone.”
  • The Sac Cliquetis is a roomy shoulder/crossbody bag with a very long leather and chaîne d’ancre strap and two internal gusseted sections.
  • The Bolide and Mini Bolide, each bearing a leather-and-chunky-chain strap.
  • The Mini Picotin, which also appeared at AW26.
  • The Vanity Case.
  • The Sanglons Clutch is a small, handheld, boxy evening bag with an interior pocket and a mirror, and a large turnlock closure along the side.
