2026 is already set to be one of the best years for new bags (and more), with not one, not two, but too many to name, new collections dropping as the year kicks off.
While 2025 was the year designers made their debuts, cementing new eras for the luxury houses they’ve stepped into, 2026 is the year that new collections hit stores. It’s then that the reaction from the greater public, those outside of the fashion world, begins. How will consumers respond? What will be the next It items?
Today, we’ve got the scoop on the latest designer debut to hit stores: Demna’s Gucci. Unexpectedly dropping his first collection late last year ahead of Milan Fashion Week, La Famiglia debuted in lookbook format, and it was instantly clear—this is the new House of Gucci.
Still, the new signals a return to the old, the old eras of the House, to be exact.
Gucci, Rewritten
As a whole, the collection is undeniably sexy and chic, and Demna designed La Famiglia with the idea of Gucciness in mind. To refine what exactly Gucciness is, Demna had to dissect what makes Gucci Gucci, and La Famiglia is just that—a study of Gucci’s most storied House codes.
As for the bags, Demna puts his own spin on Gucci icons like the Gucci Jackie, Gucci Bamboo, and Gucci Crystal. New shapes also join the lineup, such as the Gucci Mercato, which is Demna’s take on a daily shopper. Inspired by trips to the Italian markets, it combines a vintage feel with a touch of modern Gucci. Its interior is lined with a Diamante motif, which is taken from the archives.

So the “new” bags are 4 variations on the Jackie bag, and a Whiting and Davis knockoff.
Of the newest Gucci bags I am a fan of the half horsebit shoulder. There are three sizes, the mini is super cute!
Ok…as a Gucci Girl I have to say that the collection is very underwhelming. Nothing is inspiring and it’s almost as if he phoned it in. Now…I am interested in one bag and that’s the Brera Medium Crossbody in the Black Canvas. I bought 7 bags last year and they were all from the Design Team. I’ll continue to be a Gucci Girl but…..I need to see more effort from Demna.
Totally underwhelming. Am missing what was apparently the golden age of creativity of bags which seems to have passed us by a lonnnggg time ago.

The slouchy medium leather Jackie is beautiful. It aso has nappa leather lining. this one is defo on the cards for me. Love it.
Love the Jackie mini and small bags, I bet they will be popular thanks to relatively low price point.
