This is nothing new: my hunt for the perfect daily hauler that works as a travel bag but can be used for my day-to-day life as well continues. I wind up using an older Celine bag (that was amazing, it should have stayed around far longer) or a Gucci Bamboo Shopper, but I keep the search going. There is a new Gucci bag that may answer my bag needs, so let’s take a look at the Gucci Top Handle Bag.
This bag has all touches of Gucci that we know and love, along with a very utilitarian feel. This is a top handle bag at heart, reimagined in a duffle style. There are canvas and leather versions; I’d imagine the canvas version is quite a bit lighter than the leather (but I need to see these bags in person and try them on).
What makes this bag a great daily carry?
First off, the functionality of a bag is majorly important when it comes to using it for utility. Our bags all serve different purposes, but I am looking for a bag that has the specific use of hauling more than my usual essentials on work shoots to travel days with my young kids.
You’ll find two zip pockets and a top zip closure on the interior. I do wish there were a center separator compartment because that always allows me to give use to different areas of my bag (I like to separate the kids’ things from mine or work from personal). But this bag does offer a wide, detachable canvas and leather shoulder strap with up to a 22.4″ drop. I prefer a wider shoulder strap; it holds a heavier bag nicely and disperses the weight a bit better on my body.
The other aspects of this bag are pulled from archival symbols of the House, from the green and red Web detailing to the double G and detachable ID tag. This bag is a great example of modern Gucci doing what Gucci does best: melding the past and present in a fresh and new way.
There are a few different sizes: mini, small, and medium, and each is offered in a different combination of leather colors or leather and canvas pairings. This medium size measures 13.4″W x 9.4″H x 7.1″ D, and this would be the ideal size for the purposes I am seeking.
