At the end of 2019, Gucci introduced a bag to close out the decade, one that took a rich piece of storied history and twisted it to create a fresh, modern take on an archival design. The Horsebit 1955 Shoulder bag was introduced to much acclaim, quickly becoming a beloved choice for not just celebrities and influencers, but everyday handbag lovers alike. The bag’s vintage appeal, yet modern feel struck a chord with many, Megs included and the Horsebit 1955 quickly became a hit for Gucci, spawning a whole line of Horsebit bags in various shapes and silhouettes. Now, a year and half after the Horsebit 1955 Shoulder Bag’s release, the original has been given a mini makeover.

A few things struck me about this bag when I first saw it up close and was able to really get a feel for it. The first thing that surprised me was that this bag was much larger than I originally thought upon seeing it online in both width and depth. It is quite a stunning and beautifully made bag but for me the size was a no-go. I am a mini bag devotee through and through, and as I’ve streamlined what it is that I carry, I found this bag to be too large for me. Even still I really loved everything about this bag from the Horsebit detail to the iconic GG Supreme canvas and the leather trim, it’s truly a shower stopper. When I spotted a petite version of the Horsebit 1955 I immediately was intrigued.

The cool thing about the petite version of the Gucci Horsebit 1955 is that this option adds a casual cool hybrid twist to the original vintage-inspired shape. A Gucci Web green and red shoulder strap transforms the bag into the perfect dressed down daily carry, but you can also switch it out for the tonal leather strap which comes with the petite bag as well.

Inside the bag is lined in a cotton linen fabric and there is one main compartment rather than a gusseted interior with different compartments like the original. Overall dimensions are 5.7″ L x 8.1″W x 2″D, and currently there are 4 options available: solid leather in black or white and GG Supreme canvas with white or brown leather trim. The leather version retails for $2,700 while the canvas will set you back $2,450. Purchase now via Gucci.

Love this bag but the width of the strap seems like it would lay awkwardly between your boobs if worn crossbody.

Thankfully I have boobs that are “not on speaking terms” with each other 🙂

Just saw these in real life and love them! I really like that the mini comes with a crossbody length strap because I loved the original size, but a shoulder strap just falls right off my shoulders every time! I’m not a mini bag person, so I was actually happy to see that this bag could fit more than my phone and card holder. Gotta have a place for sunglasses! Haha.

The construction is gorgeous, if stiff. I’m waiting for a more colorful version (SA hinted that brighter colors are on the way).

It has two straps. It was originally 2350 when it first came out. Weeks later it was increased.
