My constant search for the right everyday tote (the kind meant to carry anything and everything) that is also the ideal travel tote and can handle a beating but still looks lovely may have come to an end. Today, a selection of Gucci Ophidia Tote Bags was released as an online pre-launch, and these might be just what I have been looking for.
It’s not shocking that I am drawn to this bag, as the previous tote I find myself reaching for time and time again is a Gucci Tote as well (from this line of the GG Flora Print). But while I don’t mind my bags being used, after some time, I want to switch it up, so none of my bags look too dowdy, and that is why I need to add a new bag for this category in my collection.
The Double G
Though major changes are in the works at Gucci, the Ophidia line seems like it has been part of the brand’s ethos for all of time. However, Ophidia is a line of bags that debuted on the Cruise 2018 catwalk, but with its Double G and Web detailing, this line feels incredibly timeless for the House.
These new totes, in medium and large sizes, feature the iconic inlaid Web detail and the shiny gold GG Marmont tab. Offered both in full leather or leather trim with canvas, the really nice thing about these totes is the removable longer shoulder straps. This allows the bag to be carried as a shoulder bag or top handle, which is an update from past renditions.
The medium size offers the most options in different colors of full-body leather or GG Supreme canvas with tonal leather trim. The interior is simple, with cotton linen lining and no pockets or additions. The dimensions of the medium size are 15.1″W x 11.2″H x 5.9″D, while the dimensions of the large size are 15.3″W x 12.7″H x 7.4″D.
