Gucci’s partnership with UNICEF enters its sixth year, with past collaborations including a holiday collection, a partnership with Rihanna, and the funky Joy Boston Bag with Snowmen.

Introducing another limited edition bag designed by Gucci Creative Director, Frida Giannini, for Mother’s Day benefiting UNICEF, this bag is intended as a bag for a mom on the move. Both functional and fashionable, the bag features an off-white fabric body with Gucci’s signature green-red-green web and leather trim. The exterior of the bag has a front-zip pocket along with two open side pockets, while the interior is also usable with a zip pocket and flat open pocket with three compartments.

The bag will be sold exclusively at the Digital Falgship,, with 25% of the retail price from each bag sold donated to UNICEF HIV/AIDS programs. Gucci choose to guarantee a minimum donation of $70,000 to go to HIV test kids for expectant mothers.

“My inspiration for this special edition bag came from my trip to Malawi with UNICEF in November 2009, when I witnessed first hand the AIDS epidemic that affects entire generations of families. As part of our continued efforts with UNICEF to improve these circumstances, the bag allows all those who would like to help make a difference in the lives of these families to contribute a gift that will have double meaning on Mother’s Day,” said Frida Giannini, who is also on the Board of Directors of PPR’s Foundation for Women’s Dignity and Rights.

Love this bag! Although I never get white handbags…

  • m1ni

I just saw this bag earlier when looking for gift for my mom. This bag is not impressive at all. I like the signature handle, but hate the fabric, color and style. They could’ve made it better.

  • whit

this looks so much like the old coach hamptons’ tote.

and yes that was ugly too

  • whit

    hampton’s weekend nylon

    It’s nice bag

I love when companies offer programs that help charities like UNICEF. But does it have to such an unattractive bag?

    • 19yearslater

      Agree fully.

  • Staci

I actually like the simplicity of the bag.

  • ninjaninja

I hate it when they half ass something for charity.

I gotta say I agree. And it’s really not that hard to do it right for charity. Apple does it right by having the (red) iPods even though I think they should also offer (red) iPhones and (red) laptops.

Even if a store doesn’t want to do a few products just for charity, doing it by a small portion of sales for all products is still a better way. That’s what I try to do with my stuff.

I quite like the design but white is a no….no….

  • Lulugurl

Love the idea behind it, but on the fence about the design.

  • Edoardo

The idea is really nice but this bag is terrible. It doesn’t look like Gucci at all, it’s more like a cheaper bag made by a comemrcial brand…please Frida, please!

  • Lucy

I actually like the bag, being a mom myself, but no mother in their right mind would EVER buy a white bag to drag around with their kid. If they offered it in black and something other than canvas (i.e. nylon, leather) I’d probably get one.

  • Sandra Rowley

I usually love Gucci, this one is not worthy of the name.

  • Mochababe73

I like the bag, but if they really want to make alot of money for UNICEF, they would price it so that more women were able to purchase it. Therefore, more money can be made.
Or, maybe I just want the bag for less than $100. LOL!

    • Lori

I totally agree with your comments.

  • FashionIsMyHobby

This bag is just asking for a pen mark to happen!

  • Karen

What a great summer bag! I love the simplicity and that GUCCI is donating the money to UNICEF. I hope other designers participate is worthy causes this year as well.

  • DJ

I guess it’s appropriate for Mother’s Day, because the first thing that came to my mind was “mom bag.” Kinda dull, unadventurous, and worst of all, practical.

  • Lizzie

    love it…cept for the handles

  • kellyX

The Sukey for Unicef last year was so so much better looking!

  • rose60610

This bag is pretty, but I wonder if Gucci would be doin g a bigger favor by donating a chosen % of all/most Gucci products to UNICEF for a limited time. I think they’d get more sales and meet their objective at the same time. Win-win. I’d rather donate cash outright to an organization than feel compelled to buy a bag that I wasn’t in love with.

  • sosti

it’s a little blah IMO… i would have expected more from Gucci… the style is very blah
