When Demna debuted his first collection for Gucci, it was instantly clear that a new era of the storied Florentine House was upon us.
Still, this new era expertly melds elements from the brand’s 100-year heritage to create an ultra-distinct (and highly coveted) brand aesthetic. Breaking down House codes and rebuilding them with a modern feel is Demna’s specialty, and his Cruise debut for Gucci, which took place over the weekend, is the perfect example.
Presented in New York City’s Times Square, the collection, dubbed GucciCore, plays on Gucci’s incredible relationship with the city. It was here in New York that Gucci opened its first store outside Italy in 1953, and this collection feels a bit like a warm welcome home.
Redefining the Gucci Persona
A further study of what defines the Gucci DNA and who is at the core of the Gucci persona, the show encapsulates the vivacity of the many different types of New Yorkers who wear Gucci: from pinstripe-donning financiers and ladies who lunch in their best furs or florals to downtown skater types and uptown socialites.
Ready-to-wear is centered on wearability, combining the new House codes cemented in Demna’s previous collections, such as La Famiglia, Generation Gucci, and Primavera. The result is a mix of highly commercial, wearable pieces that are meant to last in your wardrobe forever. Pragmatism, the Gucci way.
Sexy tailored suits gave way to pinstripes and pencil skirts, while leather and denim sets were styled with fur coats. In true Gucci fashion, there were plenty of silks throughout—both printed and solid—and silk scarves replaced belts on coats.
The Bags and Capsule Collection
Bags, too, marry distinct Gucci House codes like the GG Monogram and both Horsebit and GG logo hardware. Slouchy totes and sling bags give way to chic shoulder bags and structured top handles. An on-trend, ultra-relaxed large flap bag comes fitted with a Gucci Bamboo turn-lock, while evening bags feature high-shine Gucci crystals.
To commemorate Gucci’s New York homecoming, a limited-edition capsule collection has exclusively dropped online and at Gucci’s Fifth Avenue, Wooster Street, and Meatpacking boutiques, as well as Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s 59th Street.
The Gucci NY collection includes handbags, accessories, shoes, and jewelry, all inspired by the dynamism of NYC. Discover some of our favorite bags from the capsule collection below, now available for a limited time.

The croc bags are stunning.
Wake me up when Gucci has something better …
Calls to question how much Gucci is a pop culture brand vs a clothing/bag brand. DeSarno tried to make it a clothing brand and that didn’t take, seems they are swinging back to zeitgeist. Paris Hilton looked great!
Fur, leather, suits, suits, more suits. Is this a cruise collection? Demna is in way over his head.
Got myself one of the large Brera crossbody 😍
the chain on the flap bag is really cool.
like DNA, i would definitely go for a wallet chain or something.
Some of these outfits are a hot mess. I wish models would try to look happy, some of the makeup makes them look scary mean.
