Fendi

Does Fendi’s Kan I Collection Have the Power to Become a Classic?

Let's discuss.

We all know I’ve been vocal about my appreciation for Fendi. Not so much the ready to wear (don’t get me wrong… it’s stylish, but I’m not the type to spend $1,000 on a T-shirt). But when it comes to Fendi’s leather goods, I’m very much a supporter.

In fact, since 1925, the Italian fashion house has produced some of the biggest bag trends the world has ever seen. With Karl Lagerfeld responsible for conceiving the brand’s now-famed logo, the “double f,” Fendi has produced numerous hits that transcend time, place, and season. (Think the Spy Bag and the recently revived Baguette, which made waves in the ’90s and is now in the midst of a major comeback.)

That brings me to today. Baguette aside, one of Fendi’s more popular styles in the last few years has been the Peekaboo. But what about the Kan I collection?

Launched as part of Fendi’s Runway 2017 collection, it’s still fairly young compared to some of the brand’s other styles. Marked by a rectangle shape with a top flap and a shoulder or crossbody strap (depending on size), Fendi has released dozens of different Kan I colors and versions in the last two years. From scalloped edges and multicolored plexiglass studs, to faux pearls, velvet, and python, I’m confident even the pickiest of shoppers could find a Kan I to suit their look.

Available in two sizes (small and standard), most Kan I bags include a long sliding chain shoulder strap. Some, however, feature a thicker leather strap instead of the classic chain. Otherwise, almost all include a spacious, divided interior with two separate compartments. Unless it’s the small version, Kan I bags can be worn as a crossbody or carried by hand. The clasp is easy to maneuver, and the inside is surprisingly roomy. The exterior is tough though, ensuring the bag holds its shape.

To me, the shape itself has the staying power to remain relevant for years to come. Depending which you choose, the look of the Kan I is sleek and chic – almost like Fendi’s own version of the Chanel Flap Bag. The varied colors, embellishments, and design elements add a fun twist, making each one special. (I bet these bags would be exciting to make a personal collection with. Hm, maybe one day.)

Would you add a Kan I to your collection? Do you think it has the ability to become something comparable to the Peekaboo? Take a look at some of the latest Kan I styles and colors below, and let me know what you think.
