I think Paris Haute Couture Week is my favorite fashion week of the season because I always forget it's going to happen. Because couture is on a far different delivery schedule than off-the-rack fashion, Paris Couture always appears smack in the middle of summer, like an oasis in the fashion desert. Yesterday, another round of the highest of high fashion shows wrapped up, and that means it's time for a post-mortem.
Because couture shows generally lack handbags, that means we've turned our attention to the arms, hands and shoulders of the shows' most famous and stylish attendees. Below, you can check out all the notable bag picks we found and the super chic outfits that go with them.
It may have been Couture Week, but Alexandra carried a Miu Miu Club Bag because she was attending the brand's Resort 2018 show, which was held during the Parisian festivities. (Hey, if all the editors are already together, why not bring the show to them?) Shop the Miu Miu Club Bag via Net-a-Porter ($2,220)
Arizona's Smythson 1887 Tote is no longer made, which is too bad, because it's a great day bag. Shop Smythson via Neiman Marcus
It takes a special sort of supermodel to graduate from catwalker to long-term front row attendee, but Aymeline is among them. Here, she's carrying a Dior Diorama Shoulder Clutch. Shop Dior Bags via Vestiaire Collective
It seems like Dior is trying to make a new bag structure happen with this one. Shop Dior Bags via Vestiaire Collective
Bianca Brandolini d'Ada
Dior had arguable the biggest celebrity showing at couture. Here, Bianca is carrying a Dior Tarot Clutch. Shop Dior Bags via Vestiaire Collective
Dior always draws a huge international contingent, too, and this season it outfitted many of them with petite Dior Lady Dior Bags. Shop Dior Bags via Vestiaire Collective
We're not sure who made the pink clutch carried by former French first lady Carla Bruni.
We're 100% sure, on the other hand, that Catherine Deneuve's bag is a Louis Vuitton Twist Crocodile Bag. Shop the Louis Vuitton Twist Crocodile Bag via Louis Vuitton ($24,500)
I'd call Céline Dion a national treasure, but she is international. Her Delvaux Brillant Bag, however, is French. Shop the Delvaux Brillant Bag via Barneys ($6,150)
She's been all over the couture shows, and she always looks like she's having fun and, unlike some of the other attendees, not taking herself too seriously. Shop Dior Bags via Vestiaire Collective
I bet you can guess by the Chanel Boy Bag which show Chiara Ferragni was headed to. (Hint: it was Chanel.) Shop Chanel Bags via Vestiaire Collective
I didn't really think about it until I saw this pic of Claudia Schiffer and her Chanel Flap Bag, but I would love it if she became a fashion week staple. She's so chic! Shop Chanel Bags via Vestiaire Collective
Speaking of fashion show staples, Elena Perminova was everywhere we looked at couture, including at the Dior show while carrying a Dior Diorama Bag. Shop Dior Bags via Vestiaire Collective
We also caught her between shows carrying a design beloved by street style stars and aspirants: the Gabriela Hearst Nina Bag.
Elena also attended the Valentino show, where she carried the Valentino Stud Stitching Shoulder Bag, which is from a new line for the brand. Shop the Valentino Stud Stitching Shoulder Bag via farfetch.com ($2,545)
I know I've seen this little white bag before, but for the life of me, I cannot remember who makes it.
Man, listen: I told you a lot of people came to this Dior show. A lot of them were also carrying Dior Lady Dior Bags, like Eva. Shop Dior Bags via Vestiaire Collective
Some of those attendees opted instead of Dior clutches. Shop Dior Bags via Vestiaire Collective
Ines de la Fressange
No matter which show Ines da la Fressange is attending, she always carries Vivier. In this instance, she chose the Roger Vivier Pilgrim de Jour Bag. Shop the Roger Vivier Pilgrim de Jour Bag via mytheresa.com ($2,095)
If you're not familiar with Jeanne Damas, you need to brush up on your French It Girls. Shop Dior Bags via Vestiaire Collective
Models walking in shows get a little more latitude with their wardrobe choices than those attending them at the behest of the designers, so Jourdan Dunn got a little funky with a fuzzy Fendi backpack. Shop the Fendi Monster Backpack via Saks ($2,200)
Once Karl Lagerfeld takes a shine to someone, you can bet she'll be popping up at Chanel shows for some time to come; this season, Katy Perry made a return visit, carrying a Chanel clutch. Shop Chanel Bags via Vestiaire Collective
Sometimes I feel like Natalie Portman has been a face of Dior as long as I've been alive. Shop Dior Bags via Vestiaire Collective
I'm glad we're seeing more Bulgari Serpenti Bags lately; they're such a unique design and they come in so many different versions.
Olivia is carrying the blue version of the Valentino Stud Stitching Bag we saw earlier on Elena Perminova. Shop the Valentino Stud Stitching Shoulder Bag via farfetch.com ($2,545)
Sofia Coppola normally isn't a fixture on the global fashion seen, but it never hurts to do a couple extra public events when you have a movie to promote. Shop Valentino via Nordstrom
And finally, one more Dior Lady Dior Bag to close out a strong showing, this one on the arm of Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi. Shop Dior Bags via Vestiaire Collective
