Rag & Bone Hits Its Stride With the Aston Bucket Bag

If you’re an American fashion shopper, you probably own something from Rag & Bone. The brand has firmly cemented itself as a solid source of elevated, seasonless basics that are somehow cooler than all the other basics from all the other brands. Rag & Bone boots alone are practically a required purchase before you’re allowed admittance into the New York fashion industry, but the brand’s been trying to find its place in handbags for years.

Rag & Bone is popular because it sits perfectly at the intersection of casual, traditional clothes and fashion finishes. You feel like you’re going to get a lot of use out of almost everything the brand carries, from its now-iconic ankle boots to its sweaters and leather jackets. Finding that same sweet spot in handbags has proved more difficult; although the brand seems to inch closer every season, the Rag & Bone Aston Bucket Bag, new for fall, is the first Rag & Bone bag that I looked at and immediately felt good.

Bucket bags have returned to prominence for much the same reason that Rag & Bone is popular: they’re casual and classic, with an ease that makes the carrier of a good one seem effortlessly cool. The Aston fits the bill perfectly, with a not-too-slouchy shape in a spot-on shade of extra-dark navy and dark hardware that’s slightly industrial.

At $795, the price feels in line with the rest of Rag & Bone’s product lineup, and although the market has plenty of bucket bags already, the brand has plenty of fans and a big enough presence and identity to motivate shoppers.

If you want one of your own, it can be yours for $795 via Shopbop.
