New designer, new Bottega?
Daniel Lee's runway debut for Bottega Veneta has been long awaited since his appointment as Creative Director last summer. The Celine alum teased us with his direction for Bottega Veneta with his over-exaggerated intrecciato weave bags for Pre-Fall 2019, but now we have a first look at his debut runway collection for the brand.
The bags, and there were many, included everything from pillowy leather flap bags to structured mini bags and everything in between. Lee has obviously put his own spin on Bottega Veneta, yet the bags at their core pay homage to Bottega Veneta's brand DNA. The leather appears superior and the smaller structured bags make use of Bottega Veneta's meticulous attention to hardware and closures (however there were no knots to be seen!). Though fans of the brand may be wondering what this direction means for their beloved Bottega Veneta, this collection is both refreshingly unique and it takes a chance, which is nothing if not admirable for a new designer.
