I said it last week, and I’ll say it again, there’s been so many changes in the luxury world that it’s hard to keep up. One change that I sort of forgot about was the change that happened this past summer over at Bottega Veneta. Former creative director Tomas Maier was replaced by young designer Daniel Lee, formerly of Céline during its infamous Phoebe Philo-era. It was inevitable that change was ahead for Bottega as it has been for many luxury brands as of late. More and more it seems brands are trying to broaden their range and target a wider-customer base as they aim to tap into the millennial market.
From the looks of the bags below, Lee has definitely begun to make his mark, but will long-time fans of the brand feel alienated by this new direction? For its Pre-Fall 2019 collection Bottega banked big on super-oversized bags, one in particular featured a large, exaggerated version of Bottega’s famous Interacciato weaving, and true to its roots, there were some exotic skins shown. Models clutched a small, box-like bag, which appears to be pretty structured. I like the shape of this bag, which looks elegant and I would love to see if there’s a strap option for this bag. Lee introduced an elegant top handle bag in a stunning emerald green suede. See all the bags below.

The oversized bags are ridiculous. Made for the Runway, not real life.
What is going on in this world? Why can’t they just make pretty bags that we can wear and love instead of competing who’s going to make the silliest insta-worthy bag!
personally i like them just wanted to share i always wanted a woven version of Hermes Jpg shoulder firkin the the woven type leather basket bag is really cool………..
as long as they can make more money…. they dont care….
Thank you
I love big bags, great for weekend getaways, but I would never carry it around town for fun due to how heavy they must be. I use a WOC for that! And also, that super long strapped-bag looks insanely uncomfortable? Why would anyone want to carry a bag down at their knees? I hope the strap is adjustable or one would just kick the bag around, get caught in the straps and fall over carrying it.
Great job on the New collection… I like what I’m seeing.. Nice
These feel like some kind of joke, but I’m afraid there is no punchline.
Meh! BV is one brand where you can distinguish from other luxury brand. I am a huge fan of Maier’s RTW but this one is like … I can’t even.
The giant bags are awesome! Many of us NEED bigger bags so this is a nice break from the mini-bag trend. I loooooved TM’s designs but this is pretty lovely!
There’s some interesting stuff, not necessarily practical but no doubt attention grabbing! I like what I’m seeing. (And definitely Phoebe’s spirit is in it!)
Oh my! A largebag is one thing. But some of these are monstrous.
But there’s a few nice ones in the collection.
… I had to scroll back up to double check this really was Bottega Veneta.
The only one that appeals to me is the dark green suede bag in the 3rd photo. Oh well.
i wonder if these exaggerated sizes are only for the runway and they will make normal versions for us mere mortals
These bags are a fashionable smuggler’s dream! Seriously who is going to carry those bags! They are massive! And you know those girls in the pictures are models. What happens when someone like me in all my 5’3″ of glory carries them? I’ll look like a toddler carrying “Mommy’s bag”, oh, how cute! Somebody was smoking something when they spec’d these.
