Bottega Veneta Introduces Its Icons In Smooth Leather for Winter 2024

Showcased in just-released campaign images.

Since his appointment at Bottega Veneta, Matthieu Blazy has taken us on a journey around the world, exploring the heritage and craftsmanship at the heart of the House throughout the process.

The Winter 2024 collection is a culmination of sorts, introducing House classics—new and old—in smooth leather. The smooth leather series is just a small part of the latest collection, but it influenced Blazy in a big way.

These pieces are rooted in heritage, exploring the brand’s DNA before the introduction of Intrecciato leather. While the bags appear stripped down at first glance, it’s actually the simplicity that makes each bag stand out.

The eye is drawn to the shapes we all know and love, like the Cabat, Andiamo, and Hop. The pared-back designs allow the House’s attention to quality and craft to shine through.

NEW IN

Alongside silky iterations of the Andiamo, Cabat, and Hop, Winter 2024 sees the introduction of the Liberta bag. The Liberta bag combines the sleek shape of a pouch with the functionality of a crossbody. Offering chic sophistication, it feels like an instant classic—a welcome change from the trend-driven pieces of our time.

The new shape arrives in smooth leather alongside a fun Python iteration. The rest of the campaign showcases new versions of other BV classics like an of-the-moment Andiamo in red suede and a metallic silver Knot Clutch alongside (mostly ) wearable ready-to-wear.

Like the season’s bags, clothing is more pragmatic and pared down while offering nods to the Bottega we’ve grown to know and love under Blazy’s watchful eye. Bags will launch later this week, with pricing for the smooth leather series ranging from  $4,200 for the Liberta to $8,000 for the Andiamo.

I understand why I’m paying a premium price for the classic BV intrecciato bags because they’re hand weaved
What I don’t understand is why I’m paying the same price for smooth leather that I imagine takes less time to assemble?

$8,000 for an utterly plain leather bag? EIGHT THOUSAND???

These brands have lost their minds.

Exactly! The bags are nice but not THAT nice. Even people who have the means are not that dumb. They think we’re a bunch of suckers or something. My large hop in fondant that I got last August when it launched cost me $6100 CAD and. On the same bag is $1000 more!

Kaline

I love BV but I have no interest in bags that don’t feature the classic intrecciato.

Barbara

I am not a fan of the smooth leather for such a premium price. Bottega’s signature style has been the classic intrecciato woven leather bags, especially those made in buttery lambskin. The recent trend toward stiffer calfskin has me treasuring my classic lambskin bags. Any designer can make a smooth leather bag. Yawn.

Fiona

Agree. I wasn’t impressed the last time I went into a boutique. The leather felt stiff, much lower grade, and they don’t have that beautiful suede lining anymore! And yet, the prices go up, up, up. It gives me a bad taste in my mouth.

What bags? Some of the clothes were stunners though. Agree with other commenters about the pricing. The labels have lost their minds. The price increases will continue unabated unless we vote with our feet and walk away. I guess currently there is no shortage of buyers willing to participate in this dystopian comedy of pricing strategies.

I’m wild about the RTW myself.

I love it all. The style is timeless and worth every penny.
