I don’t know if I’ve ever heard or read so much buzz over a wallet; the gentlemen at Proenza Schouler sure do know how to work the fashion hype machine for maximum effect. On Friday came an exclusive tidbit via Vogue.com that Jack and Lazaro would be releasing a new wallet on the company’s website Monday, along with a single stock photo and conspicuously lacking price information to make us all salivate over the weekend. It certainly worked on me; as whispers and excitement spread across the fashion internet after the initial announcement, my impatience grew. I couldn’t wait to see all the colors or find out how much I would need to dish out to get one.

The PS1 Continental Wallet is like the older sister to Proenza’s original wallet, which was more like a billfold because of its single interior compartment. This one, though, is a full-fledged iteration with compartments for coins and cards as well as your standard cash slot. The first run will come in five colors, all of which you can see after the jump, and retail for $585 via ProenzaSchouler.com.

Horrible. No style, no line, no fashion. I cannot understand why PS bags are on the market. They think to be still at College…always the same old model…repeated and repeated

I think the wallets are pretty but I’d much rather have the bag!

The kelly green is a gorgeous color, but I prefer my wallets to be simpler. I know those straps are what set the wallet apart, but I find them to be superfluous. I’m also worried about the wear and tear on those, since they don’t even go through all the way down the back of the wallet and the stitching doesn’t look particularly durable.

couldn’t agree more. imagine what they will look like after a few months of sitting in the bottom of your handbag.

I agree about the straps…..for a wallet?…really? All I can see is them getting dirty and curled up and being inconvenient within a larger bag. It’s a stunning design, but just seems so impractical..

The wallet remains simple enough to be functional, but designed well so that it can remain prominent when used as a clutch.

I am glad that Jack and Lazaro will never put the PS1 on the runway. It would date it. The PS1’s desirability is a testament to the design because it never has the press of fashion week. The reason why the PS1 is so coveted is not a secret, but instead a winning combination: high design + high quality = classic

Worth every penny. I need the smoke to match my PS1!

I love the PS 1 and I actually ordered the original wallet on Friday before I heard the continental wallet would be available… at first i was so disappointed that i didn’t wait until the continental came out, but the more I look at it, the less i like it… the original wallet looks more chic and effortless, this looks almost like it’s trying too hard to look like the bag instead of being a wallet… it looks a little bulky, and the price is another turn off… one of the best parts about the original “billfold” wallet is the under $200 price tag. if i’m looking at spending around $600, I may as well wait a while and just get the bag!

I love everything about it except for that horrible snap – I wish they’d kept it hidden – such a detraction/distraction – uck!
