Gimme More Velour for the Holidays: Velvet Bags, Shoes and Beyond

For this season's parties, festivities and get-togethers, stand out from the crowd in rich, plush velvet

It’s taken a second winter of the velvet trend for me to really embrace it with open arms. Last season, when velvet began popping up on bags, shoes and everything else in between, it was stern, hard ‘NO’ for me. I think I had visions of Christmas card photos as a child: itchy crushed-velvet dresses and big, velvet bows I did not want to wear in my hair. Maybe I was a little traumatized by the velvets of Christmases pasts, but this season, it’s really grown on me, and I just can’t get enough.

I love that you can do velvet in as little or as big a way as you want. It’s understated in an accessory, like a great velvet bag or velvet booties, or you can make a big statement and do velvet in a great top or beautiful dress. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with the idea of wearing a velvet dress to my sister’s baby shower next month—I think it’s the perfect thing to wear to a winter event, and in my quest to find the perfect one, I rounded up 15 velvet pieces that are perfect to wear this winter, with a bonus—many of my favorites are marked down because of the week’s sales!

J.Crew Cropped Velvet Bomber
$170 via Net-a-Porter

This little lady is too cute for words! You can totally dress this bomber up with a pair of heels and a silk cami, or opt for a more casual look with jeans and sneakers. I love the versatility of this piece.

Sam Edelman Taye Velvet Booties
$96 via Neiman Marcus

These pretty little booties are currently marked down, so I’m sure they won’t last long! This is a super-understated way to do velvet but still have some fun with it. The color of these velvet beauties is so pretty, and I love the muted floral print.

Saint Laurent Kate Velvet Shoulder Bag
$2,290 via Matches Fashion

If I were to splurge on one velvet item this season, it would be this bag. It’s classic and truly stunning with the gold tassel detailing. This is literally the perfect going-out bag to wear this holiday season and beyond.

Valentino Crushed Velvet High Heeled Sandal
$477 via Net-a-Porter

Can you say pretty in pink? I love these dainty velvet sandals from Valentino.

Madewell Velvet Tee
$100 via Net-a-Porter

I have a pair of Helmut Lang leather pants that I absolutely adore, and I can totally see myself wearing this tee with those pants! An outfit with this shirt could easily work with sneakers for a cool downtown vibe look during the day or with heels for a sleek, uptown vibe at night.

Misa Los Angeles Desma Velvet Mini Dress
$255 via Neiman Marcus

I love this little mini-dress! My sister is having a girl, so I think I just might have found the perfect baby shower look for me.

Monse Velvet Heels
$890 via Shopbop

I literally can’t with these—they’re so cool! I love the velvet, the buckle, the big leather criss-cross detailing. I don’t know another shoe out there like this, and in fashion, that’s hard to say.

No.21 Velvet Knot Shoulder Bag
$595 via Net-a-Porter

If you saw my marigold roundup last month, then you know I simply adore this No. 21 bag. It’s stunning in marigold satin, but just as adorable in dark blue. Lucky for all of us, this velvet version is now on sale.

Prada Cahier Bag in Velvet
$2,440 via Farfetch

I’ve written about my love for the Prada Cahier Bag before, and this velvet version has my heart now too.

Equipment Via Velvet Dress
$150 via Net-a-Porter

This is a classic silhouette in an even more classic color. One simply can’t go wrong with this black velvet dress, and for the sale price, I just tapped the “add to cart” button.

Gucci Dionysus Super Mini Bag in Velvet
$830 via Neiman Marcus

It’s no secret that I, along with the rest of us here at PurseBlog, are kind of obsessed with everything Gucci is doing these days. This super mini Dionysus bag in velvet is no exception. I love it. It’s cute, chic and right on trend.

J.Brand Maria High Rise Jean in Velvet
$137 via Bloomingdales

I’m definitely getting these for a Christmas party I have coming up! Let’s be honest—we can’t buy everything we love, want and recommend here, but I can say with certainty that I’m going to snatch these up. I think I’ve mentioned it on here before, but there isn’t a pair of jeans out there that fits me like J.Brand Jeans. I adore their high-rise styles and I can always count on ordering my usual size and having them fit when they arrive. These beauties are on sale right now, too.

Rebecca Minkoff Velvet Chevron Quilted Love Bag
$198 via Rebecca Minkoff

This bag is a great way to do velvet on a budget. This dark cherry color is gorgeous and perfect for the upcoming holiday season.

Christian Louboutin Pigalle Velvet Pumps
$695 via Net-a-Porter

You can’t go wrong with a classic Louboutin pump in trendy velvet. These stunning red ladies are calling my name big time.

Vanessa Mooney Lily Choker

I’m a huge fan of Vanessa Mooney jewelry, and this charming—pun intended—velvet choker is currently on sale for a steal. This is the perfect accessory to add to your holiday outfit.
