It’s taken a second winter of the velvet trend for me to really embrace it with open arms. Last season, when velvet began popping up on bags, shoes and everything else in between, it was stern, hard ‘NO’ for me. I think I had visions of Christmas card photos as a child: itchy crushed-velvet dresses and big, velvet bows I did not want to wear in my hair. Maybe I was a little traumatized by the velvets of Christmases pasts, but this season, it’s really grown on me, and I just can’t get enough.
I love that you can do velvet in as little or as big a way as you want. It’s understated in an accessory, like a great velvet bag or velvet booties, or you can make a big statement and do velvet in a great top or beautiful dress.
