Last fall, during fashion month, designers gave us a preview of what bags we would all be carrying come spring. Now that spring is officially upon us, those bags are here. One of the major trends that ruled the runways last fall was all-structured everything. From mini bags to lady-like top handles and flap bags that screamed professional-chic, ultra-structured bags were top of mind for designers when creating this spring’s assortment.

Too Stiff or Just Right?

When it comes to construction, a bag can either fall into the structured or relaxed category, but there’s definitely a spectrum. Some bags are structured on the bottom with a more relaxed top, while others are completely relaxed with minimal shape or structure. Most of us have a preference, and while my bags range from more relaxed to semi-structured, I only own one bag that falls into the super-structured category, and that’s my Balenciaga Hourglass Bag.

While I love the look of it, and it definitely adds a chic touch to any outfit, I have to be honest; I kind of have a love/hate relationship with it. Before owning this bag, I did not have much experience with a bag that’s so incredibly structured that it offers absolutely no give. The bag’s structured shape is really what gives the bag its edge, but after using it, I’ve realized that it can be a bit cumbersome to get in and out of, and it’s definitely not my first choice. I use the bag enough to warrant keeping it and not selling it, but I’ll be mindful of my preference moving forward when I fall in love with a bag that leans more structured.

Are you a fan of the structured bag? If so, you’re in luck because there are so many to pick from this season, and we’ve rounded up some of our favorites below!

I love the look of a structured bag but they look terrible if they get creases or dings or dents, especially at the crisp edges. It ruins the whole look.

I prefer a semi structured bag like my Givenchy Mystic that has a structured top and top handle but with a softer base and thick leather that looks like new after much, much use.

Same here. Im scared the edges will get frayed as wear and tear. I dont like slouchy bags too like hobos. I prefer the middle side like the retourner of hermes. Took me so long to appreciate the chanel boy when it first came out. Only when i saw the rainbow one in 2018 that i actually fell in love with it.
