Tonight, I plan to curl up on the couch and binge-watch Netflix’s new show, Bling Empire: New York. You see, I like to spend my time unwinding with a little drama and a lot of fashion, and whether the show is entirely scripted or not, I do not care. It lightens my day, brings some entertainment, and of course, seeing the fabulous fashion and bags draws me in.
Bling Empire: New York just released on Netflix and is a spin-off of the OG Bling Empire, with Dorothy Wang remaining at the helm and introducing her group of equally if not wealthier friends (we’re talking billionaire status). Before I get into the show and share more about the drama and the bags being seen, I wanted to take a look at the bags some of the cast members have been spotted carrying and sharing on their Instagram accounts.
Dorothy Wang
Dorothy Wang is no stranger, as we have featured her before when she was first spotted on Rich Kids of Beverly Hills. Her vibrant personality and straightforward delivery prove to be entertaining, to say the least, and her love for designer bags has never wavered. She is an Hermès girl at heart, a favorite of the Valentino team, and doesn’t miss a beat to unbox her latest designer purchase. If you want to revisit our feature on what she carries in her bag, check it out here!
Tina Leung
Tina rose her way into the spotlight in the influencer world, with every major brand flying her to its shows and her being spotted in the latest must-have clothing and bag items. Her Instagram account is a fashion-lovers delight, and her bag collection is vast. You’ll see she works with the major brands and is also a fan of Hermès.
Lynn Ban
A Singaporean and acclaimed jewelry designer, Lynn Ban‘s brand counts many celebrity wearers as clients. On top of this, if you peek at her Instagram account, you will see her penchant for couture, which makes sense as she worked in the haute couture business before starting her jewelry line. Her sense of style is more-is-more, and I can’t wait to see how that translates in the show.
Deborah Valdez-Hung
We will be introduced to Deborah and her husband, Stephen, on this show. They are often referred to as “master networkers,” which means power couple in other terms. She is a former model originally from Mexico and now owns Dreamodels, an Asian-European modeling agency. She is currently at Couture Week in Paris, so she is a fellow bag and designer brand lover!
Obviously having money does not mean you can be “chic”. Most of the bags are great but the looks…
In agreement. A lot of these ‘aesthetics’ are quite contrived. Nothing natural about them, and obviously curated to present a veneer of wealth.
That said, as a celebration of camp ONLY (and not a midweek, midday, brunch look): I am quite amused by Lynn Ban’s Chanel multi-bag look.
Definitely contrived. That silver dress worn by the woman sitting on top of the LV luggage (sorry, I’m in Europe and have no idea who these people are) looks like something designed for the women’s skating competition in the Winter Olympics. (didn’t Nancy Kerrigan have a similar outfit?)
I love designer bags, but this show looks like a lot of gross excess. That’s the whole problem with reality TV, Instagram and the celebrities that have been created through both. Is this what we’re all supposed to be chasing? The ability to buy a lot of stuff and display it for photos?
My thoughts exactly. If this Birkin is so hard to get, why do they have multiple bags! And I don’t even see them wearing Hermes items other than a bag. The so called rules do not apply to them or Kanye West for instance?
Or maybe they bought their birkins at the Preloved stores or resellers apart from they are VVIP clients of Hermes. And they rather wear something flashy jewelry filled with diamonds than hermes bangles that is sterling silver.
I would agree with you if they presented themselves differently on the show. But they talked about wearing something different two to three times a day! These were not the type of people who would opt to buy from a reseller.
I have a feeling most of the luxury brand pieces were “gifted” for free publicity, or borrowed through brand affiliations, stylist connections, or through large luxury retailers with lending for film and media departments. These rich people only buy their stuff a fraction of the time once they hit “influencer” status.
We do live in a sick world don’t we?
If you can click off the brain portion that cares about the world, and just watch like it’s a commercial for fashion paid for by fashion, turn the volume down and let it just be visual background enjoyment… it’s fun to watch
Ok my eyes and brain just had their limits tested when it comes to bags 👜🤯
Just started on this show last night–I like to watch something non-violent and “light” before falling asleep and this did it for me. The clothing, bags, and makeup are wonderful eye candy. I remember Dorothy Wang from Rich Kids BH and she has had, imo, way too much work done–didn’t know it was her until I heard her voice. This show is gonna be my bedtime cup of hot cocoa!
All that work has added more than 10 years to her face. She looks ragged.
Plus, I might add, she has become quite the biatch since then too. She thinks she’s all that and everyone wants her.
I would rather see photos than live through this kind of TV show.
Ok, I’m SOLD! I’ve passed over watching this a few times, I’m more “gossip girl” than reality TV but you have just proven sometimes real life fashion eye candy is just as good if not better than what scripted shows can borrow. I think I’ll start streaming tonight…
And I am always on board with the idea that something non-violent and overly “thinky” (yea I made that up) is far better for before bed wind down time than doom scrolling or pretty much anything else on tv.
I think this post should have been divided up over the course of a couple of weeks. Looking through it was exhausting. I will say though that everyone looks very plastic and posed and have that “I carry it because it’s expensive and I am flexing hard” look.
Lynn for the win on everything!
Love Chanel, but this over-kill!
the lip fillers tho
The eye surgery and nose jobs are just too much. Embrace your culture
I haven’t seen Bling Empire but they make these bags look cheap a f.
OMG, how much money, collectively, was spent on plastic surgery? The LIPS, though. 😯
Love Deborah’s outfit with the Lady Dior bag!
