Miu Miu

At Miu Miu, It’s All About the Clutch for Fall 2020

Side note: wrinkles are apparently a thing now

Miu Miu as a whole is brand I sometimes forget about despite the fact that they produce plenty of new bags every season. Additionally, they have a pretty loyal following. Miu Miu is Prada’s little sister, named after Miuccia Prada herself, who’s the brand’s founder. Miu Miu has a unique and specific aesthetic that separates them from their older sibling. Mostly known for their plush matelassé leather and crystal detailing, the brand presented a somewhat new direction for fall 2020, focusing on structured clutches and designs that are a bit more minimalistic than in the past. Think smooth leather top handle bags with monochrome logos and matelassé bags sans embellishment.

Once I got past the completely-on-purpose, wrinkled RTW I was able to hone in on the bags, and I have to say, looking through this collection was a bit surprising. The best way to describe the bags is that they were a bit less Miu Miu than past collections. While the bags did feature a fair bit of matelassé it was surprising to see more paired down designs. Framed, hand-carried clutches were in the majority here, shown in both smooth leather as well as exaggerated, oversized matelassé. It’s clear that Ms. Prada herself is keeping with the times, offering consumers more of what’s trending, all the while trying to stay true to Miu Miu’s brand DNA. View all of the runway bags below.
