Last October, Givenchy presented its Spring 2023 collection, and one bag stole the spotlight. That bag was introduced in a few sizes and colors, and it was clear that it would be Givenchy’s next big push. Crafted from smooshy leather, the roomy shoulder bag featured moto-style leather straps and buckle detailing. The shape felt incredibly consumer-friendly and oozed all the makings of a hit, and earlier this year, we were introduced formally to the new Givenchy Voyou Bag.
Edgy and sophisticated, the Voyou oozes Givenchy’s chic sensibility with Matthew Williams’ edgy streetwear vibe. Its name echos that sentiment, taken from the French word for “bad boy.” The Voyou has continued to pick up steam with the fashion set. Though few Givenchy bags have caught my eye in the past enough to reach the top of my lust list, each time I spot the Voyou bag (IRL, on a celeb, or during fashion week), it takes up more space in my brain. It feels relevant for right now, and something about it just feels very me.
The Lilac Love Continues
Recently, Givenchy released added a few new hues to the lineup, and it included the Voyou bag in the most beautiful shade of lilac, which also happens to be my favorite color. The brand has been running a set of sponsored ads on Instagram with Kendall Jenner in full-on Givenchy Lilac, from head to toe. These ads, of course, are now haunting me since I dared to look at the bag a few times on my phone.
The Voyou bag has become a new House staple, and it works because it provides a nice dose of style with function. New renditions continue to be introduced, and aside from the lovely lilac, which has completely stolen my heart, there are an array of other new hues, from shiny metallics to fall-ready beige and olive green. Simple enough in shape with edgy details, the Voyou bag remains a staple for Givenchy this fall and likely beyond. What do you think?
