If there’s one thing that has defined 2020s fashion so far, it’s the obsession with the past. Arguably, no era has made a bigger comeback this decade than the Y2K era, with 2000s handbag trends—from bold logos to coveted shoulder bags—firmly reestablished as modern staples.
One early-aughts style indicative of Y2K fashion that continues to reign is the bowling bag. Initially created as a durable bowling ball carrier, its practical roots make the name’s origin unmistakable. Plus, its simple, functional silhouette made the bowling bag the ideal blank canvas for logo love and the embellishments that came with Y2K fashion—who can forget Missy Elliott and her Dior Trotter Rasta bowling bag?
A Classic Silhouette, Streamlined for Today
In the mid-2020s, the bowling bag continues to reign, and if you thought its popularity was slowing down, think again. The major difference? Today’s silhouettes are a bit more streamlined, with clean lines and an upped chic factor, but still with that same cool-girl feel from the aughts.
Chloé is the latest designer to debut a bowling bag of its own, and this one combines everything we know and love about the bowling bag with Chloé’s quintessential boho vibe. Evoking a retro-meets-modern feel, Chloé’s version of the classic shape marries a structured, rounded silhouette with smooth calfskin.
Chloé’s Boho Take on the Bowling Bag
Stitched leather detailing adds dimension to the bag’s otherwise clean lines, and the finishing touch is a gold-toned key ring, which is a nod to the Maison’s heritage. While the charms add a distinctly Chloé feel, the key ring can be removed.
Arriving in two sizes, small and classic, there are solid leather options as well as fun ostrich-embossed leather in muted hues of pink and green—my personal favorite! Discover the range below and visit Chloé.com for more.

if you took off the cute trinkets, and put Coach on it, it would be a sale Coach bag before you knew it.
What a snooze.
Cute, but why the structure looks.. messy? Like it’s been used multiple times then needed to take a picture of it.
Love how Chloé has reworked the bowling bag without stripping away its Y2K character. The balance between structure and softness feels very on brand practical yet effortlessly chic. The stitched leather and removable key ring are subtle details, but they add depth and make the bag feel considered rather than purely nostalgic. It’s a strong example of how archival silhouettes can still feel relevant when design and restraint lead the way.
These bags look to be seen a bit wonky. I’ll need to see them in person.
