A Look at Chanel Cruise 2021 Bags From the Brand’s First-Ever Digital Presentation

Coming to boutiques this November ...

Fashion brands love to make a spectacle of themselves, and no one does so quite as big as Chanel. The brand’s runway shows are known for their themed fanfare, novelty bags and overall over-the-top presentation. However as to be expected, this year things looked a little bit different when Chanel presented its Cruise 2021 collection yesterday afternoon. Chanel’s Cruise runway show was supposed to take place on the Italian island of Capri, but the world’s current events had other plans for the brand, and this year Chanel showed its newest collection digitally.

Virginie Viard told Vogue that she travelled to Capri in her mind to create this collection while on lockdown in France. The pieces as a whole are inspired by the idea of a destination wardrobe—easy, summer looks that are both effortless and cool. When it comes to the bags, and there were plenty, Viard presented shapes that are elevated, yet wearable. Chanel’s Cruise bags are typically all about the details, and these bags are no different than what we’ve seen in years past. Viard embraced chains, which were spotted on new versions of the Chanel 19 bag and caged-like bucket bags. Flap bags were seen throughout with novelty details like sequins and colorful tweed. Additionally, embellishments took center stage in this collection, which is chock full of lust-worthy new bags. One thing that’s missing from this collection is the themed, novelty bags that Karl Lagerfeld’s Cruise collections were known for. Though they weren’t everyday bags, they were wearable works of art that gave the collections such life.

Take a look at bags from the collection below, which will hit stores at the end of this year.
