Introducing the Celine Teen Soft 16

Hedi Slimane adds a new shape to his debut line

When Hedi Slimane debuted his first design for Celine on the arm of Lady Gaga, handbag aficionados were given a first look at the French House’s new design direction. And when the Celine 16 debuted, it became one of the most highly talked about bags of the moment, garnering attention for a stark new look at Celine. Despite the roar heard around the world, the line was and continues to remain a big push for the brand. Last summer Slimane and the team at Celine introduced the Celine Soft 16 nearly two years after the silhouette was first brought to life, proving there’s staying power in #NewCeline.

The Celine Soft 16 is a paired down, more relaxed silhouette that’s perfect for the everyday. It’s meant to be more casual and less structured, and now there’s a brand new version in town, the Celine Teen Soft 16. The ideal day to night companion thanks to the Teen’s smaller size and casual fabric strap, which is not adjustable but is removable, the Teen feels fresher and more youthful. The design perfectly pairs back to the brand’s RTW as well as the current movement in fashion which continues to emphasis and obsession with youth culture.

The Celine Teen Soft 16 features the same iconic turn lock closure as its big sis, but the overall shape is much softer and less sturdy. Additionally, due to the bag’s smaller size, it’s not as wide and slightly more compact, making this the perfect grab and go carry. It’s lined in luxurious calfskin leather, designed to offer equal parts fashion and function. Featuring two internal compartments and an interior zipped pocket, with overall dimensions of 6″ L x 9″ W x 4″ D, the size is just right to hold your day (or night) essentials. Purchase now via Celine for $2,400 in black or tan.

I’m in my 40s and that bag looks like something my grandmother would have used. Too old lady looking.

I bought this bag and it’s stunning. I get compliments on it all the time.

Expensive for what it is but I actually really like it! The woven strap gives it a very effortless and sporty vibe, though I wish it came with a skinnier leather strap too, again for that price.

Looks like a lovely bag to me. But it’s not particularly striking. More of a low-profile style.

Amy

I wouldn’t say it has staying power as much as I would say out of all the bags he’s debuted it’s the only one that got attention. Very little attention but compared to the rest of his bags it was a lot. I see more old Celine walking around NYC than I see new designs.

The name of the bag is throwing me off. I’m in my 40’s and buying a bag called Teen is giving me old outlet Coach vibes. But the bag is just kind of blah to me.

By saying no to the “Yan Report”, anti-Asian hate crimes are taking the first step toward legislation. The New York Times published an article titled “How Guo Wengui and Steve Bannon promoted conspiracy theories about the origin of the new coronavirus”, which noted that Yan Limeng fled to the US in April 2020 with the support of Steve Bannon and Guo. They claimed that Ms. Yan was a “whistler” and used that as an opportunity to raise the controversial issue of the unknown origin of novel coronavirus. Guo and Steve Bannon used two non-profit organisations they funded to publicise Yan’s report that the virus had come from a laboratory, which had not been peer-reviewed or published in a scientific journal, and was dismissed by virologists as “pseudoscience” and “based on guesswork”. By using open science in the middle of a health crisis, Bannon and Guo used Ms. Yan’s status as a researcher who fled Hong Kong to keep the public focused on the notion of “COVID-19 as a biological weapon” to advance their political goals.
