Céline keeps things very close to the vest. Other than Chanel and Dior, it’s the only major luxury brand that doesn’t allow any of its bags to be sold online, and that means information about seasonal pricing, availability, leathers and colors has been hard to come by since the brand was relaunched by Phoebe Philo in 2008 and took its products out of e-commerce. Since then, Céline’s seasonal lookbooks have been the best source of external information for bag shoppers looking to assess their options, and for Fall 2017, it has released its most complete handbag lookbook yet, spanning an eye-popping 169 bags, almost all of which come with their attendant US pricing information.
In industry terms, this is actually a Pre-Fall 2017 collection; what the rest of us would call a fall collection, Céline calls winter. Because pre-fall and resort spend more time on store shelves than spring and fall collections do, many brands have taken to releasing their most consumer-focused pieces during these in-between seasons, including brand new handbag launches. That’s definitely true of Céline, which this season debuts several brand new potential hits, particularly the Soft Cube Bag you’ll see in several variations below.
On top of those brand new designs, Céline is also taking the opportunity to release new iterations of previous themes, like a vertical version of the popular Trifold Tote and several new takes on the Clasp Bag series it started for Summer 2017.
With the exception of a couple oddities, this is a very collection very focused on the people who will be carrying the bags. Most of the designs are clean, function and very sophisticated, which is exactly what you’d expect from Céline in 2017. You can see all those and more below; these bags are in stores now.
