The single most-asked question I get from family, friends, and even acquaintances is this: “What’s a good bag that’s stylish and cool, but also affordable?”
I often find myself rattling off the usual list of contemporary options — think Coach, Polène, Sézane, and more. But when asked for a single bag recommendation throughout the last year, I found myself giving the same answer every time.
To my neighbor — a freelance creative and mom of two in her thirties — to my single friend in her twenties, and everyone in between, I’ve made the same recommendation time and again: the Manu Atelier Le Cambon.
Why the Manu Atelier Le Cambon?
Manu Atelier’s Le Cambon began ruling the NYC streets late last year, quickly emerging as a lesser-known (and much more affordable) alternative to The Row Margaux. Of-the-moment and chic yet still classic, the Le Cambon has a quiet appeal that feels luxe at a contemporary price point.
While I don’t yet own a Le Cambon, I do have another bag from Manu Atelier, one I’ve remained impressed by years later, which is why I’d confidently recommend the brand to my closest friends. When someone is looking for a bag that’s not designer, even a few hundred dollars can feel like a big spend.
Trust me, I get it. Unless you’re in the bag bubble, it is.
That’s why I’m always thoughtful about the bags I recommend. Le Cambon looks like a luxury bag with its soft, structured appeal. It’s a touch bold and a touch refined. It’s made of high-quality leather and can easily transition from look to look, which is something to consider, especially if you’re not someone who buys a lot of bags.
Sizes, Pricing, and Celeb Fans of the Le Cambon
What I also love about Le Cambon is its ageless appeal. The bag transitions effortlessly between dressed-up and casual looks, and its simple shape doesn’t feel overly trend-driven, despite the belted detail. With five size options, plus both leather and suede versions, it’s easy to see why I keep coming back to it.
- Le Cambon 20, $580.
- Le Cambon 25, $675.
- Le Cambon 35, $820.
- Le Cambon 40, $980.
- Le Cambon East/West, $740.
The Le Cambon is also a celeb favorite, which is another thing I love about this bag. Stars are gifted, can afford, and have access to the world’s best bags, so it’s always interesting to see when they opt to carry contemporary.

Nice bag but the strap on the 40 is much too thin. If it’s heavily loaded for a workday (laptop etc), it would really dig into your shoulders. Needs a wider, more durable strap.
